Overview: The EH&S Officer is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the Environment, Health, and Safety Management System within the organization. This role is dedicated to increasing employee awareness, adherence, and engagement with EH&S initiatives to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. The officer will drive the development, application, and monitoring of policies and procedures that align with all relevant EHS regulations. Key Responsibilities: Enforce and continuously monitor EHS policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance across the organization. Conduct inspections of facilities to identify and mitigate potential hazards, analyze operational data, monitor environmental metrics, respond to safety inquiries, and implement corrective measures as needed to uphold safety standards. Lead safety inductions for employees and new hires, covering safety protocols, legal requirements, and the organization's safety expectations. Contribute to the ongoing development of the site's Safety Statement, including comprehensive Hazard Identification, Risk Assessments (for chemicals, machinery, facilities, and handling practices), and the Hazard Control Program. Support Preliminary Design Risk Assessments for the integration of newly designed machinery. Perform routine EHS audits, ensuring thorough follow-up and timely resolution of corrective actions identified. Facilitate the activities of the Health & Safety Committee, Fire Wardens, First Aid teams, Risk Assessors, and Emergency Response Teams. Investigate and document workplace incidents and accidents, providing detailed reports and analyses. Foster a proactive and positive safety culture across the organization, encouraging widespread engagement in EH&S initiatives. Prepare and present regular EH&S reports to management, outlining key insights, compliance status, and action plans. Collaborate with engineering teams to identify potential manufacturing issues, advise on waste reduction strategies, address EHS policy deviations, and recommend improvements. Build productive relationships with contractors across multiple trades and backgrounds to ensure EH&S standards are maintained. Partner closely with the facilities engineer to support project management for facility initiatives and assist in general facility-related tasks as needed. Qualifications & Requirements: Bachelor's degree (Level 8) in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Proficiency with digital document management systems is an advantage. Strong understanding of Safety Regulations and Standards, and knowledge of plant maintenance schedules (preferred). Skilled in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, with the ability to assess potential risks and identify hazards. Capability to educate and train employees on best safety practices and procedures. Experience in planning and executing emergency response measures. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
