Gis Technician – Environment & Planning

TOBIN, a large multi-disciplinary (engineering, environmental, planning) consultancy practice operating in Ireland since 1952, is currently looking to recruit an ambitious and self-driven GIS Technician to join our busy and growing team in our Dublin Office. As a member of a team within a TOBIN department and through mentoring with senior members of staff within TOBIN, the GIS Technician will be required to provide GIS, mapping, digitising, surveying capability to contribute to the successful delivery of projects on time and on budget by undertaking the following duties:
Duties and Responsibilities: Spatial Data management of incoming and outgoing datasets from client and public entities. Must be familiar with ESRI FGDB and Shapefiles.Desktop GIS for data management, visualisation, analysis etc. (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, QGIS or similar).Figures and Maps Production.Ability to automate standard GIS processes using scripts and tools (e.g. SQL, Python, ArcPy).Configuration and support of WebGIS applications (e.g. publishing of feature services, to ESRI AGOL, web maps and applications: configure FGDB; Field Maps, Survey123 deploy).Quality check and geometry corrections on digitised data (e.g. survey habitats).Experience in Earth Observation / Remote Sensing techniques (DEM, DTM contours, Viewshed Analysis, image Classification).Assist engineers/PM with figure production and data collection and visualisation.Take instruction from their Line Manager (and where appropriate the relevant Project Manager and senior members of the project teams).Innovating workflows including automation of standard geoprocessing, map production and current and future request of the team.Skills Required: Good written and verbal (English) communication.Strong interpersonal communication skills.You will be versatile, a good team player, and committed to providing the highest level of service at all times.Ability to work within a team environment and using your own initiative to achieve project goals.Must have excellent time management skills and be able to work under pressure when required to achieve deadlines.Good presentation skills and strong attention to detail, reflected in high quality mapping outputs.Strong spatial analytical skills and an aptitude to applying analytical skills to problem-solving.Good IT literacy and with scripting/programming experience.Experience with small to large-scale projects involving recurrent data updates.Experience in both desktop and WebGIS applications.Subject matter expertise in one or more sectors such as environmental, transport, and/or utilities applications of GIS.
