The Role: Provide medical physics support for diagnostic imaging services, contributing to the development and provision of quality assurance (QA) programmes for a range of medical equipment including Interventional radiology, Mammography, PET/CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc. (in both the Galway and Limerick Clinics).Assist with the scientific and technical support required in Nuclear Medicine, Radiopharmacy, and Radiation Protection services in the hospital.Take responsibility for methodology development in some of the areas outlined above.In partnership with clinical colleagues, participate in optimisation programmes designed to improve the application of diagnostic imaging.Participate in Research, Development and Innovation as appropriate.Ensure, by liaising with relevant team members and service engineers that all the equipment in his/her working area is maintained and working correctly.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.Provide scientific and technical advice to support the justification to replace medical equipment when required and contribute to the provision of an active equipment replacement and decommission programme.Perform calibrations and checks on medical equipment and test equipment, as required.Contribute to various safety programmes for medical equipment, such as MRI and radiation safety programmes and appropriate licensing procedures related to imaging equipment and radioisotopes, electrical and mechanical safety programmes, decontamination and vigilance programmes.Conduct staff and patient radiation safety training.Keep abreast of current developments in the field and ensure that his/her own knowledge and skills are kept up-to-date by participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development activities.Ensure that all departmental reports and hospital records are confidential to the service and maintain confidentiality in respect of matters which come to your knowledge in the course of your official duty.Prepare for and take part in audits and inspections as required.Otherwise participate in the work of the Department as required.The Candidate: Physics or Engineering Degree.Completion of a training scheme or previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage.The candidate should have initiative and an ability to work independently.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Awareness/Sensitivity toward patient needs.Closing date for receipt of applications: Friday 8th November 2024 at 5pm.
