Position Description The Safety Technical & Services Supervisor's (STSS) role is to support local management, staff and contractors to achieve their overall safety objectives and to ensure safety performance targets are achieved. The STSS is responsible for driving safety improvement across the Northwest Region. This includes monitoring safety trends, driving safety initiatives, measuring and reporting on progress of safety targets, completing investigations and reports, engaging with staff, managers and contractors across the organisation on safety related matters.
The STSS will provide safety and technical expertise to support the NCD Regional Manager, Middle Managers, Supervisors and team members to maximise safety performance.
The STSS leads and promotes a safety culture amongst staff and contractors so that safe behaviour becomes the norm.
Key Responsibilities Ensure that staff and contractor personnel complete work safely to the required standards.Ensure a safe working environment for staff, contractors and the public.Provide guidance and support on Technical & Safety issues and raise awareness on same among relevant business line.Provide advice on Safety Legislation and ESB Electrical Safety Rules.Carry out safety and quality audits as per agreed audit schedule and provide feedback on performance.Monitor and use the Safety Management Systems (e.g. Shield) available to Staff & Contractors and promote and monitor Local Safety Plans to achieve safety improvements.Coordinate staff, contractor and public safety improvement plans.Promote a positive safety culture.Lead Safety Towards Zero Accidents.Promote Public Safety Policy.Accident and incident classification (HRN) and investigation.Audit Safety Standards and Performance, this includes OHSMS Internal Audit schedule.Promote safety culture with contractors and others.Support Front Line Managers to progress staff Training and Approvals.Work with Safety Advisors and team members to ensure that a high safety management structure and organisation is in place and operating as needed.Provide regular reporting and KPI on safety performance with Staff & Contractors.Coordinate Local Safety Committees.Participate and interface with Safe and Sound teams.Support Safety Initiatives as they arise. (Safe & Sound, Safety Days etc)Experience and Qualifications Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate/A suitable Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services, Electronics, Mechanical or other suitable alternative qualification with a sizeable electrical theory content.Minimum 5 years relevant work experience.Full, clean driving licence. Travel will be a feature of this role.Experience and Knowledge of Transmission / Distribution Assets and associated Standards.Experience and Knowledge of Electrical Safety Rules.Understands and applies the relevant Quality Management Standards.Assessment of Risk and Application of appropriate controls.Experience of ESB Network's IT systems.Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.Understanding of ESB's Group policies in all dealings with staff, customers, contractors, general public etc.Familiar with ESB Safety Systems & Processes, SHIELD, Auditing, OHSAS/ISO 45001 etc.Knowledge of LV, MV, HV network operations under normal and under fault conditions.Familiarity with Business Systems.Knowledge of Safety Legislation.Knowledge of Contract Management Procedures.A qualification in Safety Management or Safety Systems is desirable. In the absence of already having such a qualification, it is expected that the successful candidate will undertake to complete such a course.Location Sligo.
Sligo - Flexible to North-West region. Travel will be a feature of this role.
Reporting to The successful candidate will report to the Technical Manager.
