The Accounting Specialist performs routine accounting activities such as payroll, general ledger posting, accounts payable and receivable functions and preparation of various accounting reports and financial statements. They should be familiar with standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures as well as posting journal entries.
Responsibilities Apply accounting principles to enter and review transactions for appropriate treatmentReconcile accounts and research discrepanciesPrepare journal entries and bank reconciliationsReview account balances for accuracy and reasonablenessComplete all steps in a period close with appropriate documentationFollow prior period workpapers to determine level of work to be completedProcess payroll and related payroll taxes, including Form 1099'sPrepare sales and other local taxes including commercial activities tax (CAT) filingsIdentify questions and communicate effectively to appropriate parties, including clientsAnswer questions from clients or team members on how to use Quickbooks desktop or Quickbooks online (QBO)Preparation of Prepared and Compiled Financial StatementsAssisting clients with accounting, payroll and basic software issuesProcessing of client's payrollCalculating bonus payments and appropriate deductions from bonus checksCalculating and/or processing payroll tax deposits and payments, as requiredAssisting tax/accounting and audit departments with training/providing annual adjusted client trial balanceManage and prioritize workload to ensure that deadlines are metEmbrace team environment and adapt processes to firm standardsAssisting principals with client billingIdentifying potential additional services to benefit current clientsKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality of firm and client informationData entry skills and high attention to detailEffective oral and written communication skillsClient service orientedAble to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalismExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to work well and learn from othersMaintains cheerful attitudeWilling to adapt to continuous process improvement and changes in technologyTechnology skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook) - requiredQuickBooks, QuickBooks Online - preferredInternal software abilities - Fixed Asset Solutions, Accounting CS, Caseware Working Papers and GoFileRoomHigh School diploma or G.E.D.Associates or Bachelor's degree in accounting or comparable accounting and bookkeeping experience preferred0-4 years in relevant position or equivalent combination of education and experienceBasic accounting practices within a business environment preferredUnderstanding of basic accounting principlesKnowledge of Microsoft Office applications with advanced skills in Word and ExcelRea & Associates offers a wide variety of benefits to help support our employees' health, wellness and financial goals.
