Our Renewable Energy Business Unit currently has a need for an Applications Engineer on a permanent basis. This role will be based in Newbridge and will report to the Data Analytics Lead. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and project managing the delivery of Trading systems, databases, and business processes, meeting regulatory changes and market changes, such as Scheduling and Dispatch Programme, and Future Arrangements for System Services, ensuring compliance with all Bord na Móna's requirements.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
Identify, appraise and support Operations and Trading business requirements for new assets, business processes, regulatory, market and IT changes for the Trading functions within Operations;Ensure best practice on all aspects of data engineering, including but not limited to trading platform development, server and database management, developing visualisations and working with large data sets to support trading and enhanced trade execution strategies;Monitor a programme of work from design to delivery to ensure all new assets and regulatory changes are integrated into operations and trading systems and processes in an efficient and timely manner. Improve stakeholder engagement with internal and external stakeholders, enabling updates on the status of work items on a regular basis;Ensure interactions with Bord na Móna colleagues, including but not limited to Commercial, Operations and IT. Manage external third-party vendors contracted under an existing framework. Scope work through specification development based on interactions with traders and regulation, liaising with the vendors, managing vendor performance, progress reporting, upstream communications, cost and budget forecasting and management;Support the wider Bord na Móna Renewable team reporting and automation, identifying and implementing efficiencies particularly through the use of Python. Engage with external support providers as required to enhance the performance and deliverables of the Trading team;Collaborate with the Renewable Energy Operations Technology team to align trading systems and processes with compliance requirements, and integrate best practices for cyber-security into the trading function;All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety, and Welfare of co-employees and members of the public using the premises;Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team's, objectives;The Person:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills, knowledge and attributes:
Third level degree (min 2:1 classification) in a discipline with a high level of numerical, analytical and/or financial content (Engineering, Finance, Science, Data Science);Minimum 5-7 years' experience across Power System, System Operation, Trading Operational Support, Data Analytics;Expertise in data engineering and management of large data sets in SQL within an AWS environment, including connectivity with raw data sources and with end user platforms (including Excel and PowerBI) are required;Knowledge of ISEM and the analysis of market drivers is essential;Good team player, good judgement and decision making, strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills are essential;A self-starter who can work on their own initiative;Demonstrable experience of analysing large volumes of data to identify trends is desirable;The selection process for this role will include candidate screening from application.
