Position @ National College of Ireland, IrelandAssistant Professor in Computing (Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence)The School of Computing is one of the largest Schools of Computing in Ireland with academic programmes that are at the leading edge of industry requirements within an innovation-intensive environment. Our School faculty is strongly focussed on applied research on different aspect of computer science, with current involvement in a number of EC Horizon 2020 projects in technology-enhanced learning, cloud computing, analytics and artificial intelligence. Additionally, the School has strong industry links, is a part of Dublin Regional Innovation consortium, and encourages inventions, patents and spinouts.
Position:Assistant Professor (Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence)
Reporting to:Dean of the School of Computing
Key Relationships:Dean/Vice-Dean of School of ComputingFaculty/Programme DirectorsComputing Support TutorProgramme Co-ordinatorsStudentsKey Responsibilities:Teaching
Actively participate in the School's teaching provisions at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Supervise and mark student research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Attend committees and meeting appropriate to School programmes.Engage in the assessment processes of the College including setting and marking examinations and assignments and attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners.Programme Development
Assist in the development of existing and new programmes. This may involve drafting submission documents, writing new modules and/or revising existing ones, liaising with the validating bodies, promoting, implementing, and reviewing complete programmes.Research & Innovation
Carry out research and innovation activities relevant to College activities, consistently publishing findings in peer-reviewed high impact journals and reputable international conferences and fostering foreground knowledge activities such as innovation disclosures, patents, software development, etc.Pursue funded research projects, consultancy endeavours, and development work as appropriate.Actively participate in the conception and development of project proposals aligned with the School's research interests to attract external research and innovation funds from external entities such as Enterprise Ireland, European Union, SFI, etc.General
Act as programme director for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in consultation with the Dean of School.Contribute to academic and disciplinary committees as requested.Represent the College at exhibitions, open days, recruitment trips, industry engagements, and other external events.Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement.Carry out administrative and other duties as deemed necessary by the Dean of School.Commitment to the mission, vision and values of National College of Ireland.Qualifications & Experience Required:
Master's or PhD in the areas of Cybersecurity or Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.The candidate should be able to teach the technical/practical areas of the subject area.Teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level is required.An established track record of research achievement, as evidenced by scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals with impact factors and reputable international conferences, is desirable.Evidence of research funding (for Academic II).Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.The current positions are in areas such as Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Business.
Salary: The appointment will be to Academic I Salary Band €37,271 - €57,027 or Academic II Salary Band €53,836 - €82,374.
The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications; academic experience; research output and funding. The candidates for Academic I and Academic II will be screened against different criteria. ie Candidates holding a Masters in the relevant area will be placed on Academic I and PhD in the relevant area will be placed on Academic II.
Annual Leave: 34 days per annum
Contract: Full-time, Fixed Term Contract (1 and 2 years)
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Visa: If you are from a country that is outside the European Economic Area (the EU, plus Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein), the UK or Switzerland, you need permission to work and reside in Ireland and must possess a valid working Visa to apply for this position.
