Summary/Brief: The Automation Project Engineer supports the operational aspects of ongoing projects and works alongside program management and planning, project team, and line management. They action and feed into the status of projects; maintain schedules and prepare status reports. Assessing project issues, the Automation Project Engineer works with the technical team to develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives and develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with program managers, line managers, and clients. The Automation Project Engineer supports the overall program goal to ensure project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost.
Education/Training/Experience: Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, biomedical engineering or similar discipline.
2-4 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with high volume automated assembly experience.
Able to work well in a cross functional team environment.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Customer focused, motivated, enthusiastic, self-directed and results driven.
Interest in automation lines & related equipment/systems (robots, PLCs, vision systems, etc.)
Responsibilities of Position: Support design, buy off, installation and validation of automation production lines.
Process characterization / optimization (DFMEA's, PFMEA's, DOE's etc.).
Support systematic technical root cause investigations.
Support production line ramp to achieve mature production targets.
Drive improvements in manufacturing metrics including OEE, scrap, cost, productivity and utilization.
Apply and support lean manufacturing principles.
Adhere to all quality system requirements.
Action assigned project budgets, liaise with customers and contractors as required.
Travel as required to support equipment buy-offs and/or training at vendor/customer sites.
Review customer requirements and assess with vendors for tools, equipment and services.
May establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test.
