Purpose of the Post The overall purpose of the post is to provide safe and timely advanced Nurse led care to patients with rheumatology disease.
The advance practice role demonstrates a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience that is applied with the Nurse patient / client relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and accurate decision making (NMBI 2017).
The value of the nursing contribution as a distinct profession must be safeguarded and consolidated in the development of new services led by Advanced Nurse Practitioners complimenting rather than replacing current services delivered by Doctors (NMBI 2017).
The candidate ANP (Rheumatology) process is to enable the individual nurse to meet the NMBI criteria for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner as set out in Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards of Registration (NMBI 2017).
This process is facilitated under the direction of the Health Care Providers Advanced Practice stakeholder Governance group.
The cANP (Rheumatology) will undertake the academic preparation to achieve the knowledge base required to meet the criteria.
He/ She will develop the clinical skills to attain the necessary competencies and the reflection process that accompanies this learning will enable the candidate to recognise the leadership skills that are essential to execute the post.
The scope of the cANP role must reflect the incremental development of expertise.
The success of this learning process is the individual submitting completed documentation for registration as an RANP with NMBI.
The role will provide clinical leadership and professional scholarship in order to develop nursing practice and health policy at local, regional and national level.
The role will contribute to nursing research to shape and advance nursing practice, education and health care policy at local, national and international levels.
Clinical Supervision The cANP (Rheumatology) engages in an educational developmental process as a Memorandum of Understanding.
A nominated Consultant Physician Rheumatology Medicine will adopt the role of lead clinical supervisor but additive clinical supervision will be provided by the other members of the Rheumatology team.
The structure, process and outcomes of clinical supervision must be explicit.
A detailed record of the progression to attainment of their outcomes will be recorded by the cANP Rheumatology in his/her professional practice portfolio.
