The job holder will report to the Centre Manager The post holder is expected to operate with considerable autonomy.
The nature of matters referred upwards are those: Where significant resistance is experienced in the development of good practice and implementation of policy.
Where practice or proposed practice places stakeholders in a position of risk e.g.
a child, a vulnerable adult, members, volunteers, the reputation of the Society.
Where decision will have a significant impact on the workload of others.
Assist the Centre Manager and other staff in the smooth running of the centre by keeping active and positive working relationships with all members of the team and communicating well as part of a dynamic team in the centre.
Support staff in maintaining good order and organisation in the centre Report issues/concerns regarding the centre and/or service users to the Centre Manager Ensure all aspects of the daily in house programme of activities are prepared in advance e.g bingo, exercises, arts and crafts, games, music, video club etc Promote a relaxing and enjoyable environment for service users in the Day Care Centre.
Support Management in developing and undertaking a person centred daily programme of activities for clients in the centre, providing for the personal, physical, emotional and social needs of the individual Oversee and implement this daily programme of activity for clients With the support of Management, develop individual Care Plans as required.
Ensure service-user feedback mechanisms are in place and feedback reviewed to ensure they are providing a quality programme of activities at all times, catering for the needs of service users Accompany clients on and off the bus to and from the centre.
Report issues/concerns regarding clients to the Centre Manager Offer support and intervene, as directed by the Centre Manager, to the clients in regard to hydration and nutrition Work collaboratively with Centre Manager and other staff in the best interest of clients Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to clients Ensure the dignity and respect of clients EDUCATION: Minimum FETAC Level 5 in Social Care/Social Science/Care Skills/Healthcare Support or equivalent qualification is essential KNOWLEDGE: A knowledge and appreciation of the Society, its ethos, mission and values.
Understanding of health and safety requirements when working in this environment EXPERIENCE At least 1 years experience working as a carer or in a similar role is essential Experience of working with the elderly or this age group in general Experience of planning and/or delivering a programme of activities, providing for the personal, physical, emotional and social needs of the individual Experience caring for people with mobility needs.
Experience of working in the community/ voluntary sector would be an advantage SKILLS: Excellent skills as a Carer Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Excellent interpersonal and listening skills Good organisational & administration skills Ability to work as part of a team, and on own initiative where required Empathy towards the welfare and wellbeing of the more isolated and older members of our community Ability to build a rapport with clients is essential Ability to foster a sense of independence for all clients.
