Beaumont Hospital is a large academic teaching hospital providing emergency and acute care services across 54 medical specialties to a local community of some 290,000 people. There are a number of national centres at the hospital including the National Referral Centre for Neurosurgery and Neurology, National Kidney Transplant Service, and National Cochlear Implantation Programme. In addition, we are a Designated Cancer Centre and the Regional Treatment Centre for Ear, Nose and Throat, and Gastroenterology. We employ over 4,500 staff and have 820 beds. Beaumont Hospital is the principal teaching hospital for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and enjoy close links with other academic institutions in respect of training and research.
The Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) Department provides scientific and technical support to clinical staff in relation to medical devices, diagnostic imaging, ionising and non-ionising radiation protection, teaching and training. The Department's mission is to drive the development of new clinical services and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of existing clinical services for the benefit of our patients. The department operates within the Clinical Services division of the hospital and works across the directorates. In addition, the department provides a range of physics services to the individual hospitals within the RCSI Group Hospital Group.
The Chief Physicist is responsible for leading and directing MPCE and providing professional and scientific leadership on all matters relating to the application of medical physics and clinical engineering pertaining to a large academic teaching hospital. The successful candidate will be highly experienced with a proven record of achievement, be dynamic and have strong scientific skills. They will have the capability to lead, motivate and communicate with other senior management, business leads and clinical staff over a broad range of specialities. The Chief Physicist will have the ability to set, follow through and deliver on objectives, and to provide and manage services offered by MPCE with a view to development of high quality services.
