Tyndall National Institute is Ireland's largest deep-tech research centre, specialising in integrated ICT, photonics and electronics.
As a key national institute, Tyndall's world-class research teams perform ground-breaking research with an 'excellent impact from excellent research' philosophy, focusing on the delivery of value from research to the Irish economy.
While in the past Tyndall focused on technology and its capabilities, the Institution's approach is now changing for the better, thinking about the output of its research in human as well as economic terms.
The world's major societal challenges such as poverty, energy, gender equality and climate change are affecting the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world and Tyndall have the power to make a difference.

Now as Tyndall prepares for further growth and the development of its next Institutional Strategy, it seeks to appoint a leading researcher and scholar for the newly established role of Chief Scientist .

The Chief Scientist will lead the research activities of the Institute.
This individual will be a highly credible researcher of international standing in a discipline relevant to Tyndall and as a Full Professor, contribute to the overall intellectual life of the University.
The key focus of the Chief Scientist will be to drive research excellence across the Institute and to optimise both bottom-up and top-down research strategy and execution.
The Chief Scientist will also develop the international distinction and reputation of Tyndall and in turn attract and develop research talent at all levels.
The successful individual will have a strong track record of strategic leadership in a comparable, research intensive environment with demonstrable experience in effective long-term strategic planning.
They will also bring an excellent understanding of the Irish, European and international research landscape.
