As AWS continues to expand, we're seeking a talented Civil Designer to join our Design Engineering team in Sydney. This exciting 8-month contract offers a chance to strengthen our in-house civil design capabilities for Data Center Mega Campus projects across Asia Pacific. You'll also help drive standardization within the Civil Engineering discipline. As a Civil Designer, you possess solid knowledge and experience with Civil 3D design software for preparing civil engineering designs for roads, earthworks, and underground infrastructure. You excel at working autonomously while also being a natural collaborator—one of your key strengths. You're adept at identifying critical challenges, proposing multiple solutions, and analyzing them to develop effective and scalable outcomes. Whether you're collaborating closely with other engineering team members or tackling complex documentation issues, you consistently deliver outstanding results.
Key job responsibilities
As a Civil Designer, you will provide full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers from site due diligence through to construction completion.
This is a client-side role, and you will be working closely with the whole team to ensure quality engineering solutions are delivered within tight time frames.Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs are integrated and aligned with project goals.Lead early work civil design packages for mega-campus Data Centre projects across Asia Pacific. Work autonomously to review and analyze site due diligence documentation, and develop and implement the civil design strategy for new sites in the region.Utilize your solid knowledge and expertise in Civil 3D design software to prepare comprehensive 3D models and 2D drawings to develop land for our mega-campus Data Centers.Analyze external consultant civil designs, reports, planning documents and provide comprehensive support to AWS Data Centers from site due diligence and design development to construction completion.Identify, develop, and implement automation to standardize civil design development and delivery processes across Asia Pacific, and contribute to innovative initiatives in AWS.Be familiar with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) civil regulations and permitting processes. Given Amazon's global presence, 25% travel is required. This includes international travel to inspect and audit current and future data center sites. Collaboration with international teams is essential, and you may need to travel for workshops to develop schematic and detailed design documentation packages.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years professional experience in land development, commercial, warehouse, and/or industrial site-civil design and remediation with working knowledge of civil engineering conventional practices.
- Solid knowledge and experience in civil design software such as Civil 3D or equivalent. Experience with DRAINS or MUSIC design packages will be considered a valuable bonus.
- Proficiency in earthworks, grading, paving, storm water, utility design, and landscaping.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience as a Civil Designer for 5+ years, focusing on subdivision and infrastructure projects.
- Excellent communication skills, motivated, dependable, and capable of working with limited oversight to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find innovative solutions
- Knowledge of land development permit approval processes and Australian design standards and guidelines.
