Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) For Adults with Intellectual Disability (ID).Grade Code 2627. Permanent Full-time Post Eligibility Criteria for CNS: Persons applying for this must have at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post:
Essential: Be a Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID) on the live Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais Na hÉireann (NMBI) and have a minimum of 1 years post registration full time experience (or an aggregate of 1 year's full time experience) in the RNID division of the register. In addition, the candidate should have a minimum of 1 years' experience working with adults who have Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Experience of working with those who have behaviours that challenge is also a requirement.
Experience of supporting people during times of significant transitions such as moving from secondary education to an adult service provider will be an advantage. Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award that is relevant to the specialist area of care i.e.
(equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed.
(2008). OR Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard, relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), and in line with the requirements for specialist practice i.e.
ASD in Adult ID as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed.
(2008).
For Nurses who express an interest in this CNS role and who currently hold a level 8 educational qualification in the specialist area (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), this qualification will be recognised up to September 2026.
Demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area. Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice Be of good character and possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative capacity for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Candidates must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Having a thorough understanding of the Positive Behaviour Support framework and, evidence based ASD approaches with ability to demonstrate same. Show ability to work as a team member within the immediate place of work and also with the wider Multidisciplinary Team. Be able to work in an approachable, self-directed, efficient and flexible manner. Demonstrate fluent oral and written English with good presentation skills.
IT proficiency and excellent English writing skills is also essential. Have the ability to practice safely and effectively the core concepts of the CNSp role and to represent the RNID profession well. Have a full Driver Licence as travel within Limerick city and the county is required.
