Construction Director As the Construction Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the entire construction department, ensuring the successful execution of projects from inception to completion.
This role requires strategic leadership, collaboration across departments, and a deep understanding of construction management.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Management: - Direct, manage, and oversee the entire construction department, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Commercial, Estimating, Health and Safety, and other departments to ensure seamless integration and cohesive project delivery.
Project Oversight: - Work closely with Commercial, Estimating, and Quantity Surveyors (QSs) on tenders and active projects to ensure accurate cost estimation and project alignment.
- Manage all aspects of project planning, programming, quality, costs, and design, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Oversee procurement processes, including the management of subcontractors, resources, and materials.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: - Attend and coordinate client meetings, pre-start meetings, and monthly project reviews as necessary.
- Present project updates and strategic plans at board meetings, ensuring clear communication of progress and challenges.
- Actively engage in business development by reaching out to architects, engineers, and PQS firms to secure new projects and expand market presence.
Resource Management & Recruitment: - Manage and allocate resources effectively across projects, ensuring optimal utilization of personnel and materials.
- Lead recruitment efforts for new hires, ensuring that the construction team is staffed with qualified and motivated individuals.
Health & Safety Compliance: - Ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards across all projects, fostering a culture of safety and compliance within the team.
- Monitor and address any potential safety issues promptly, maintaining a safe working environment for all staff.
Business Development: - Play an active role in business development, including participating in tenders, setting preliminary budgets, and exploring new business opportunities.
- Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities to enhance reputation and secure new business.
Team Leadership: - Provide leadership and mentorship to the construction team, promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain a strong project team, leveraging excellent personnel management skills.
Required Experience & Qualifications: - Extensive experience as a Project Director or Senior Project Manager with a reputable main contractor.
- Proven experience in Commercial Cut & Carve projects is essential.
- Strong background in working with reputable Design and Build main contractors.
- Experience in residential, commercial, and high-end fit-out sectors.
- Desirable experience working on Grade II listed buildings.
- Excellent IT, communication, and project planning skills.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
