Dangerous Buildings Inspector, Housing & Community Services Dept.

Details of the offer

Dangerous Buildings Section is responsible for maintaining public safety in relation to privately owned buildings and places. When Dublin City Council becomes aware of any structure or place that is likely to become dangerous, an Inspector from the Dangerous Buildings Section carries out an investigation. Comprehensive powers of enforcement can be exercised by this Section under the Local Government Acts. Appropriate action is then taken to eliminate the danger.
The role of the Dangerous Building Inspector is to inspect structures and places to remove danger to the public. Inspections are carried out as a result of reports and complaints from the Gardaí, emergency services, other Dublin City Council Departments, the general public, and by routine inspections carried out in the Inspector's area of responsibility. The City of Dublin is divided into 4 or 5 areas of responsibility for the purpose of inspections. Reporting to the Architect in Charge, Dangerous Buildings, or such person who may be nominated by the City Council from time to time, the Dangerous Building Inspector will be assigned to one of these areas.
The holder of the post will be assigned to 24 hour emergency cover on-call on a 24 hour, 7 day week roster basis approximately once every 4-5 weeks – (this is dependent on the number of Inspectors recruited). Remuneration will be determined by the national on-call arrangements and Organisation of Working Time Act. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a period of training for this position.
