Data Centre TechnicianJob Summary Do you have experience of working within an Operation Centre or Datacentre environment? Or maybe you have customer-facing experience and would like to be part of a passionate company that is expanding fast and can offer plenty of opportunity?
As a Datacentre Technician, you will be part of a team that is at the core of our Equinix Operations department, providing 7/24/365 support to the Datacentre and conducting circuit maintenance, installations, and advanced testing. You will also be responsible for the daily upkeep and operation readiness of Equinix's IDC environment.
Responsibilities Installations:
Racks and stacks customer equipment
Installs customer equipment and cabinets
Queue Management:
Determines work priorities from the Siebel queue and ensures adherence to all pre-defined SLAs
Testing/Troubleshooting:
Conducts carrier circuit testing
Cross Connects:
Installs/Tests/Modifies/troubleshoots cross connects per SOPs and ensures proper cable management of: fiber, twisted pair copper, coax, and intra-building cross connects
Installs and tests advanced cross connects circuits (switched, multiplexed, etc.)
Installs and tests Data Centre Link cross connects using Fluke and JDSU testers
Ensures test results are compliant with industry standards.
Documentation/Reporting:
Maintains detailed written records of all work activity
Create, assess and continually improve internal and externally-facing controlled documentation
Projects:
Supports fulfillment of projects with direction from senior staff
Training:
Completes all assigned training in a timely manner
Customer Management:
Supports customer satisfaction through timely and precise order execution
Operational Support:
Responsible for monitoring customer applications and Equinix's operational architecture through the Control Room. In particular generating daily shift reports
Respond to alarms in accordance with Equinix procedures
Perform routine physical tasks associated with the daily upkeep and operational readiness of Equinix's IDC environment
Conduct tape rotation tasks on a daily basis
Qualifications Essential: Experience in Customer Service, Operation Centres or DatacentresExperience of Copper / Fibre Cabling techniques (Installation, Termination & Testing)Willingness to work a 24/7 shift rota that includes day and night shiftsBaseline Knowledge of LAN (Ethernet) and network protocols such as TCP/IPDesirable: Knowledge of Datacentre environmentsExtensive computer knowledge and familiarity (Windows platform)Previous ISP or Telco BackgroundBaseline Knowledge of network, facilities, and security-oriented monitoring systemsBaseline knowledge of operating systems specifically Microsoft systems administrationBaseline Knowledge of server infrastructureExperience of any of the following technologies whilst not obligatory would be a distinct advantage: Cisco Switching/Routing/ASA, FORTINET (CCNA preferred)Degree in IT preferred or equivalent experienceEquinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
