Orion Group Life Sciences are currently recruiting a Data Scientist on behalf of our Multinational Pharmaceutical Client based in Dublin on an initial 11-Month contract with potential to extend. This is a hybrid role - 1 day onsite, 4 days remote per week; based in Ireland but will include occasional travel in EU / Israel and US.
Proficiency in Python or R is a must-have, and familiarity with SQL is beneficial. Specifically, this role would benefit from experience with multi-level statistical methods such as BLUE and REML as well as experience in adapting genomics data for advanced analytics. Experience with cloud solutions such as Databricks, Dataiku, AWS, and Snowflake is considered an advantage.
Role FunctionsData analysis and modelling: Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyse time series and genomic data to uncover meaningful insights that drive decision making and innovative product development in the dairy and beef industry.Collaborative Product Development: Work closely with product managers, data scientists, software engineers, data managers, and domain experts to develop data science products, utilizing your expertise in mathematics and statistics to optimize product performance and value.Experience, Knowledge & SkillsMinimum Requirements: A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in data science. Experience with delivering data driven value in the ruminant livestock industry a plus. Familiarity with quantitative genetics would be desirable.Technical skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis, modelling, and algorithm development.Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and linear algebra.Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for handling DNA sequence data (e.g., BLAST, Plink, GATK etc.).Experience with multi-level methods such as BLUE and REML.Domain knowledge: Familiarity with livestock agriculture or aquaculture is a plus. Understanding of animal health and genetics in these domains would be an advantage.Passion for animal health and welfare and a genuine interest in leveraging data to make a positive impact in these industries.Nice to Have: Familiarity with animal health and welfare in livestock, fisheries industries, aquaculture, companion animal.Familiarity with agile methodologies and experience working in fast-paced, collaborative environments.Knowledge of cloud solutions (e.g., Databricks, Dataiku, AWS, Snowflake) and experience with scalable data processing, storage, and deployment.Qualifications & EducationA minimum of a MSc in a relevant field such as data science, mathematics, statistics, genomics, or a related discipline.
