The Role We are looking for a Director of Data Science & Engineering who thrives on working in a fast-paced, highly flexible environment. This is a senior leadership position in the Technology organisation reporting directly to the CTO. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Business Intelligence Analysts to drive the development and delivery of advanced data-driven products and solutions. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our data strategy, leveraging data assets to enhance business outcomes, and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation and enhance business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Business Intelligence Analysts. Set clear objectives, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment. Ensure the team's professional development and growth. Work with the Product team to develop and execute a comprehensive data product strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for leveraging data assets to create innovative data products and solutions. Oversee the end-to-end development of data products, from ideation to deployment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, software engineers, network engineers, to integrate data products into our offerings. Establish and maintain data governance practices, ensuring data accuracy, security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. Implement data quality measures and continuously improve data management processes. Drive the development of data analytics capabilities to derive actionable insights from data. Enable data-driven decision-making across the organization by delivering meaningful business intelligence and dashboards. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand their data needs and requirements. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in data science and engineering. Evaluate new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance our data science and engineering capabilities. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Basic Requirements and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. Proven track record of at least 12+ years in data-related roles, including data engineering, data science, or business intelligence, with at least 4 years in a leadership or management position. Strong background in data engineering principles, including data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, as well as data manipulation and analysis libraries and frameworks. Knowledge of big data technologies such as Snowflake, or NoSQL databases. Experience with machine learning, statistical modelling, and predictive analytics techniques. Demonstrated success in developing and deploying data-driven solutions that have a measurable impact on business outcomes. Experience of working with multi-vendor, 3rd parties, and client teams. Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives. Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations, and drive actions. High attention to detail including precise and effective customer communications and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications: Telecommunications experience, especially in connectivity a distinct advantage.
