Position Description Renewable Operations is a division within ESB Generation and Trading with responsibility for the management of the Operation and Maintenance of ESB's renewable assets portfolio.
As part of delivery of the Net Zero by 2040 Strategy it is our ambition that we will generate 70% of our electricity generation from renewable assets by 2030 with 1.7GW of offshore wind, 3.5GW of onshore wind and 900MW of solar and also to incorporate 800 MW of renewables enabling flexible generation assets including battery energy storage systems, peaking plants and grid support devices such as synchronous condensers.
Due to the projected significant expansion of the renewables portfolio over the coming years, ESB is seeking to appoint a Distributed Generation Technical Services Engineer within the Distributed Generation team. The role of the Distributed Generation Technical Services Engineer is to support the Engineering and Asset Management function within the Distributed Generation team with specific focus on the grid scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, solar farms, open cycle gas turbine technology, hydrogen and synchronous condensers. Other technologies may also feature at a future date within this O&M department.
Key Responsibilities Applying a high level of safety standards in every aspect of the work and take a leadership role in Safety in all Distributed Generation Activities. Provide technical service support to the Engineering Services Manager and the wider O&M team. Provide technical expertise in the area of battery energy storage (BESS), solar, synchronous condensers and gas turbine technology and their related auxiliaries. Other technologies may be incorporated in future. Develop the performance management and reporting of the asset portfolio. Produce comprehensive and accurate monthly performance reports (report RAM data, contract performance, etc.). Monitor on a regular basis the operating performance and efficiency of the plant to ensure it continues to operate at optimum efficiency, output and within Contractual and Warranty obligations. Undertake ad-hoc analysis of the operating performance of the plant. Supports Long Term Asset Management process for multiple technologies and sites within the portfolio. Development of technical specifications, lead the review and evaluation of tenders and production of tender evaluation reports. Develop, support and manage several contracts such as technical support, CCTV, etc. Provide support as applicable to the Site Managers during the planning and execution phase of an outage. Lead failure investigations, root cause analysis and problem solving. Manage the 'Management of Change' process for the plants. Undertake ad hoc projects as assigned. Experience and Qualifications The successful candidate will:
A minimum of 3 years relevant experience is required in O&M of generating plant, project work or equivalent. Degree qualification in an Engineering Discipline. Proven ability to deliver on the "key responsibilities" outlined above. Have a strong safety and risk management focus. Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures. Self-motivated and ability to project-manage own work and coordinate with others. Be assertive and have excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills. Be flexible and service motivated. Flexibility is important in all aspects of the role, including travel nationally and internationally. Very strong report writing capability and documentation skills. Chartered Engineer status or working towards same. Knowledge of all aspects of equipment (electrical, C&I, mechanical) utilised in power plant projects. Trained, authorised and experienced in ESB Generation and Trading SSoW Safety Rules or equivalent. Understanding of the commercial side of a Power Generation business. Location The successful candidate will be based at ESB Generation and Trading Offices in Dublin. Short term domestic and international travel to generation sites in ROI and UK are a feature during the course of their work.

Reporting To The successful candidate will report to Asset and Contracts Manager, Distributed Generation.
