JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Engineering Maintenance Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE: To manage staff and ensure the necessary fleet is presented on time for operations to the required safety, technical and quality standards while maintaining the safe operation of the maintenance depot on their turn of shift.
KEY QUALITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE): Essential: At least 5 years' experience in the role of a Depot or Workshop supervisorDemonstration of Safety Consciousness through actions.Proven experience in engineering theory and practicesTo be an advocate for Continuous Improvement change in the workplaceAbility to promote the use of Safe Working Practices in a Team environment.Ability to understand application of Maintenance Specifications.Strong leadership skills to lead and motivate staffAbility to work alongside managers, and cross functional teamsDesirable: Craft QualificationRolling Stock Maintenance QualificationCertificate in Supervisory Management or Equivalent.Competencies: Leadership and Development of staffDecision MakingSafety Focus / KnowledgeTechnical KnowledgePlanning, Monitoring & ControlSAP/IT KnowledgeRESPONSIBILITIES: Accountability for all work carried out in the Depot Workshop and Mobile WorkshopsTo verify that all tasks are completed to the required standard- proactively identifying quality trends that may exist and resolution of these issues with staffEnsure trains are safe to enter service, and if a safety issue arises on a train in service to liaise with Fleet Technical Support and CTC as necessary to ensure that train is removed from service as required.Supervise staff in the performance of their dutiesProvide work instructions to Teams so that they can achieve the agreed Reliability and Output Targets to the required specification.Ensure well-organized, efficient and safe operation of the maintenance depot on his/her turn of duty.Act as a point of contact for communication with other IÉ departments, i.e., Central Traffic Control and train crewsThe Supervisor will play a Lead role in driving Continuous Improvement, and in addition will carry out at least one Major Continuous Improvement Project in the location annuallyMonitoring Contractors to ensure they comply with applicable standardsCoaching and corrective coaching of staffReview of adequacy of maintenance specifications, and propose improvements/revisions of same to Fleet Technical SupportThe Supervisor must adhere fully and ensure staff adhere fully to the requirements of Safety Management System, Quality Management System, Technical Management System, Environmental Management System, Employment and Safety Legislation.He or she must demonstrate competence in accident, incident and emergency response, including reporting and recording procedures related to people and Rolling Stock; call out procedures and lines of communications of emergency services and management.Carry out detailed and high focused Safety Tours each PeriodEnsure that briefings take place and he or she must provide the teams with information regarding Documents and other relevant information affecting the teams output and Safety Performance.Supporting timely preventive and corrective action.Ensure a high standard of safety, and monitoring those controls from Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments are adhered toEnsure a high standard of 5S is maintained on his/her turn of shiftPrepare and implement Plan of Work for each shift, and account for any variance to that planA technical understanding is a vital part of the Supervisors role including knowledge of materials, specifications, components and the understanding of Technical DrawingsHe or She must liaise with Stores with regards to material usage and requirements.Assist with planning of parts, equipment and facilities for Maintenance Programmes and recommend staffing levels and training to facilitate programmesThe Supervisor will record all fleet work activity on the SAP Maintenance SystemTo participate fully in training courses designed to give additional skill and a greater understanding of your work role and related activities including Safety.To comply with the terms of your employment contract, including, Safety Related Activities, attendance at work, punctuality and general behavior.To work within the terms of grievance and disciplinary procedures.To recognize customer/supplier relationships and the role of the Supervisor in providing a low-cost quality product to customers.To understand company policies and business direction.
