Engineering Manager – MEMS Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term PURPOSE OF ROLE Reporting to Head of Group (HoG), the Engineering Manager will be responsible for developing new, and sustaining existing, cleanroom processes and technologies to fit multi-project requirements in the area of MEMS wafer processing and device fabrication. The Engineering Manager will be expected to create imaginative and cost-effective solutions to critical fabrication process or engineering problems. At this level, the role is largely independent, building on his/her own expertise while assuring the availability of a learning environment for less experienced engineers, researchers, and technicians and supporting the development of experienced personnel.



Key Responsibilities Manage operations and engineering within the MEMS cleanroom, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and safety standards. Supervise and evaluate the performance of cleanroom engineers and technicians, ensuring effective housekeeping and user discipline. Liaise with the maintenance team to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime. Prepare and present technical and monthly reports, developing KPIs for team performance. Promote process excellence, coordinating and controlling workflows using electronic systems. Collaborate with different fabrication groups to drive process improvements and knowledge transfer. Manage all MEMS customer interactions and contribute to job cost assessments. Develop and implement training programs for cleanroom users and process teams. Build and maintain positive relationships with engineering managers and the Head of Group, contributing to the group's overall development. Ensure compliance with Tyndall Quality Management System and Health & Safety standards. Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post. Essential Criteria MSc. degree in Engineering, Science or related discipline. Typically, a minimum of 10 years semiconductor wafer process engineering experience in a commercial or R&D wafer fabrication facility. Typically, a minimum of 5 years of experience managing a cleanroom laboratory, including directly managing personnel, ensuring efficient operations, and fostering a productive work environment. Strong technical skills (>5 years experience in, and demonstrated development of) at least three fabrication technology areas e.g., Photolithography, Deposition, Etch. Experience of tool procurement through a tender process. Demonstrated ability and experience liaising with customers in both research and commercial fields, translating customer requirements into practical fabrication processes. Experience in maintaining compliance with Health and Safety standards, Quality Management Systems, and Risk Assessments, ensuring a safe and regulated working environment. Significant experience in managing research or commercial projects, including costing, scheduling, resource assignment, and delivery, with a focus on aligning technical standards with project execution. Desirable Criteria Organizational Skills: Capable of managing diverse tasks, prioritizing effectively, and meeting deadlines under competing demands. Customer Liaison and Process Translation: Skilled in understanding customer requirements and translating them into practical fabrication processes. Leadership and Team Management: Proven experience leading teams in a cleanroom environment, fostering high performance, and developing staff through training and mentoring. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, able to convey information clearly and confidently. Analytical and Decision-Making Abilities: Proficient in gathering and analyzing data, considering broader implications, and identifying cost-saving and income-generating opportunities. Results-Oriented Management: Accountable for achieving objectives, effectively organizing and delegating work, with a strong focus on delivering quality customer service. Interpersonal Skills: Builds strong relationships with colleagues and management, promotes open communication, and handles challenging situations with diplomacy and respect. Specialist Knowledge and Commitment: Deep expertise relevant to the role, with a commitment to the values of the Tyndall National Institute and ensuring customer-centric services. Appointment will be made on the Admin II (6A) scale B: €69,240 - €87,706 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
