Job Purpose: The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer's role is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's environmental health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promoting a culture of safety and sustainability. This role aims to minimize risks, prevent workplace incidents, and enhance overall operational efficiency by integrating health, safety, and environmental considerations into all business processes. This role is an onsite position and a completely new role for the organisation here in Galway.
Roles and Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and monitor EHS policies and procedures in compliance with local, national, and international regulations.Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, implement effective control measures and mitigation strategies.Investigate and manage accidents, incidents, and near-misses, carrying out root cause analyses and implementing appropriate corrective actions ensuring timely and accurate reporting in addition to notifying the management team, Health & Safety Authority and Insurers as required.Design, schedule and deliver EHS training programs to enhance employee awareness and competence in safety practices ensuring ongoing review and on time completion of all training. (Includes but is not limited to: first aid, ergonomics, manual handling, new hire induction, training plans for all machines and carrying out general "toolbox" talks). Ensuring all staff are appropriately trained and developing a training matrix to track this.Maintain accurate records and documentation for all EHS activities including regulatory compliance and internal audits.Design and implement sustainability initiatives (to include review of waste disposal, pollution control, energy conservation, recycling programs, CBAM reporting and general resource efficiency) to reduce the company's environmental footprint.Liaise with the group QHSE manager regarding group environmental initiatives.Develop and monitor an emergency response plan that addresses potential emergency situations. Implement training as necessary to responsible person and conduct regular drills.Chair the EHS committee meetings and drive the agenda.Manage the EHS safety statement.Work with external agencies and auditors during inspections and audits.Work with management and HR to define and implement company wellness goals and initiatives into the overall business strategy and align programs with company objectives.Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics, assisting in the development of continuous improvement initiatives.Collaborate with all departments to integrate EHS considerations into all business processes.Promote a culture of continuous improvement in EHS practices.Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes, providing updates and recommendations as needed.Key Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.A minimum of 5 years of experience in an EHS role preferably in a manufacturing role in an industrial setting.Knowledge of Irish and EU EHS regulations and standards.Knowledge of industry-specific standards and best practices.Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel and Word.Desirable: Proficiency in EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.IOSH membership.
