St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities.
Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
The Foundation provides services to children and adults, through day services, residential, respite care, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region.
We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area; such as Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown and Mallow, in Limerick; Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff Croom Dromcollogher, Granagh Kilmallock, and Liskennett.
Initial Hourly: 39 hours per week including weekend work.
Requirements: A qualification in Equestrian Studies/BHSAI A full clean driving licence (W, B, BE or C1).
Indemnification of the Foundation on your car insurance policy Informal enquiries to Helen Picha (Liskennett Therapy Co-ordinator) on 086 2061626 Job Goal: To organise, co-ordinate and implement an Equestrian programme for adults/children with intellectual disabilities which will meet their needs, interests and abilities and which offers them choice When on duty to actively manage the equestrian centre and farmlands Main Duties: Attend to daily stable management duties, including mucking out, feeding, watering etc Be responsible for reoccurring takes relating to the order of feed and bedding, routine farrier visits, tack maintenance, manure disposal etc.
To be responsible for the organisation, coordination and implementation of the equine activities within the Foundation in line with the Foundation Policies Encourage and facilitate the participation of as many service users as possible in an Equestrian Programme Timetable programmes in an organised manner in consultation with Service Users/Nurses/Supervisors/Teachers and in conjunction with the Manager/Assistant Manager of Adult Services To assist with the preparation of Service Users for any equine activities or games Make recommendations on all purchases of equipment for the Equestrian Centre and farm.
Be responsible for the maintenance of all equipment used during equestrian sessions, the equestrian yard, farmlands and farm equipment.
Clean, disinfect and maintain to a standard set by management equine accommodation, yards exercise areas and paddocks, feed room, tack room, laundry and storage facilities, staff tack and rugs, including maintenance Follow training programs as appropriate to individuals horses, including earning trust, leading in hand and basic stable manners, lunging and long reining, breaking, schooling and riding Carry out health checks on equines, including visual observation and physical inspection of body conditions for signs of ill health or abnormalities.
Taking temperature, pulse and respiration rates Administering wormers and other treatments and medications as directed Be responsible for the care of the horses in compliance with animal welfare legislation To maintain the equestrian centre in a clean and orderly manner To drive the Foundations transport as required General Duties: As the above is not an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities, this job description may be revised from time to time to take account of any change in requirements of the position of any other duties as may be assigned by the Manager/Assistant Manager of Adult Services
