Role Overview The Interactive Brokers Global Tax Team serves an important role in the success of our business. We mitigate risk and create value for our business and our customers. We partner with many functions across the company, including Accounting, Treasury, Technology, Client Service, and Marketing, to assist our business in achieving our commitment to delivering value through technological innovation and providing our clients with unprecedented access to global markets at the lowest cost. The Global Tax Team sets the tax policy for the company and identifies, develops, implements, and manages tax strategies to help minimize our overall tax cost. We advise clients on the US and international tax aspects of our product offerings, manage tax audits, and ensure financial reporting and tax returns are filed on time and accurately.
We seek a European Tax Manager specializing in European tax matters to join our rapidly growing Global Tax Team. The person will report to the International Tax Director, who is also based in Dublin and will interface with key tax personnel and non-tax business executives throughout the organization. The person will conduct research and analysis for direct and indirect tax law in Europe and will have responsibilities for direct and indirect tax filings for select markets in Europe and possibly also in APAC. The person will need to develop deep knowledge of IBKR's products and business. A successful candidate will need to be a collaborative team player and be entrepreneurial, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.
Responsibilities Develop a solid understanding of IBKR's business and its product offerings.Research and analyze European tax law, EU Tax Directives, and Pillar Two of the OECD Inclusive Framework as relevant to IBKR.Research and analyze indirect tax laws, such as VAT, GST, and financial transaction taxes, as they would apply to IBKR and IBKR's clients.Analyze international business activities, financing, and commercial transactions, including identifying and evaluating alternatives and providing recommendations for solutions to the rest of the Global Tax Team and other IBKR stakeholders.Prepare and file indirect tax returns for select European and APAC markets.Manage tax compliance for direct tax in select European markets, including preparing work papers for tax computations and coordinating with external tax return preparers.Partner with the Client Tax team to provide technical guidance on new product offerings, client impact, and IBKR's reporting and withholding obligations.Manage, maintain and enhance processes and systems for VAT and other forms of indirect tax compliance, financial transaction tax compliance, and develop planning to reduce indirect tax exposure.Maintain solid knowledge of existing and proposed rules, legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation for all countries outside the United States where IBKR operates.Monitor EU tax-related initiatives and other global tax landscape/legislative changes, such as BEPS, BEPS 2.0, public CBCR reporting, ESG and tax strategy disclosures and other initiatives that seek to enhance tax transparency and reporting by multinationals.Develop a good understanding of US tax implications for U.S.-headed multinationals.Manage and oversee tax audits in select markets in Europe.Work on special projects and administrative matters, including process development, building relationships with business units, and budget development and management.Assist with research, development, and integration of new tax technologies, including tax data collection and automation.Qualifications, Skills & Attributes Minimum of 8 years of experience working in tax with a publicly held corporation and/or Big Four public accounting firm.Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting or a similar field with a focus on taxation.Qualified Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA).Background in a broad range of international tax issues, including inbound, outbound, and local European tax issues.Basic knowledge of Tax Accounting, in particular, U.S. GAAP accounting (including ASC 740-10) and/or IFRS.Solid analytical skills and a broad understanding of tax planning on a multinational level.Great attention to details.Excellent writing skills.Strong business communication skills with the ability to effectively relate tax issues to non-tax personnel; strong consensus builder and team player.Strong commercial and business awareness.Location The role is hybrid and will require in-office attendance for three days/week.
