Position SummaryThis is a key role requiring extensive technical and organisational skills. The Facilities Technician is required to execute day-to-day facilities activities and achieve departmental goals for Safety, Quality, and Operational Effectiveness. The technician is primarily responsible for the maintenance & calibration of plant utilities, process equipment and generation of associated documentation (paper or electronic).
DutiesSafety Participate in HSSE Safety committeesReport, trend, action and investigate unsafe acts, near misses, incidents and accidents using the appropriate STERIS electronic systemsConduct safety audits as requiredDrive safety standards throughout site and operational work areasBe an active member in all process and plant-based risk assessmentsEnsure 5S audits are executed and maintained as requiredEnsure strict adherence to site security standardsEnsure all PPE standards are maintained and available to team membersHave authority to delay or abort cycles in specific circumstances such as emergency situationsDuties - contdQuality Participate actively in equipment/facilities related process deviation investigations and non-conformances, ensuring root cause investigations are executed, corrective/preventive actions are identified, in conjunction with the Quality Operations teamParticipate in regulatory inspections when requiredParticipate in Customer quality audits when requiredEnsure timely and effective communication and escalation process exists to raise facility issues to the appropriate levels of managementUpdate and maintain standard operating procedures/work instructions and engineering procedures as required, ensuring accuracy and compliance to ensure maximum qualityCoordinate the Change Control/Parameter Change control process and generate the required documentation to fulfill the requirement of the plant quality management systemDuties - contdCost Ensure all plant downtime is reviewed and monitored with suggestions for improvements highlightedManage the STERIS spare part inventory process, ensuring availability of key parts for planned and unplanned maintenance activities. Work closely with the Purchasing Officer, Facilities supervisor/Manager to ensure cost-effective purchasing is deliveredEnsure spare part stock levels are accurately maintained on Emaint and coordinate with Purchasing Officer, Facilities supervisor/Manager to ensure Purchase Orders (PO's) are raised in a timely mannerGenerate and process purchase orders as requested by Facilities manager or designateDuties - contdDelivery Ensure that all external calibration equipment is scheduled and completed in a timely mannerGenerate work orders, enter comprehensive job details on a regular basisTroubleshoot equipment and work with control systems and PLCsSupport the development of an annual Facilities budgetCommunicate to Facilities supervisor/Manager all issues that affect the plantOversee equipment upgrades and refurbishment projects, effectively coordinating with vendor support in line with change control policiesSchedule and ensure critical third-party activities are executed and completed as per site proceduresMonitor, log and review all call outs and schedule call out rota in line with production demandsBe regularly available on standby to respond to various call outs in relation to utility and process alarms and problemsParticipate and Lead (if appropriate) improvement projects as deemed by ManagementEnsure that the Computerized Maintenance Management system (Emaint) is managed as per STERIS global requirements and used effectively for management of all PM, Stock control calibration activities including planning and associated recordsEnsure that routine preventative maintenance programme is adequate and completed in full and in a timely manner as defined per local Standard Operating Procedures and/or Work InstructionsDuties - contdReview Unplanned Maintenance completion and adequacyRecord and track Planned Maintenance and Unplanned Maintenance activitiesEnsure that equipment is suitable and maintained to a sufficient standard to permit continued processing to validated parameters; actively participate to continuous improvement of the equipment and processSchedule and complete Bi-Weekly Maintenance checks and complete outstanding tasks from investigationCoordinate projects and Improvement initiative activities related to EO under the directive of the Facilities Manager and/or Site Quality ManagerDuties - cont'dPeople Create and maintain a proactive culture where team members are empowered to deliver the company values of ACHIEVEMENT, INNOVATION, INTEGRITY and ACCOUNTABILITYAdhere to all break timesCarry out any reasonable management requestsCommunicate policies, procedures, and any updates to facilities team members. Participate and drive OTOG initiativesAttend training sessions relevant to the function with a proactive approach to continuous learning and adapting in-house processes to meet current industry best practicesDuties - contdOversee SQDC counter measures ensuring target dates are reportedProactively identify countermeasures to continually improve our process relative to plan (KPI)Develop continuous improvement initiatives/activities within the department including supporting KAIZEN eventsDevelop & drive 5S program in the Facilities departmentParticipate in site process mapping, gemba walks and problem-solving exercises in conjunction with other departmentsKey Results – how this position will make an impact: Consistently improve facility performance to ensure operational efficiency and site safety standardsTeam member development plans with skills contingency planningEmbedded Continuous improvement cultureEducation DegreeVocational/Technical
Associate's Degree
