Job Title : Fellowship in Dementia Care in General Practice              Reporting to : Prof Tony Foley Base : Department of General Practice, University College Cork Contract type : 12-month Fixed Term Hours per week : 40 hours/ Full time (50% clinical, 50% academic) Annual Leave : 30 days / 6 weeks                       Salary : Confirmed on application Closing Date : 5pm on Monday 30th September 2024                 About The Irish College of GP's The Irish College of GP's (the College) is the postgraduate medical training body (PGTB) responsible for postgraduate education, training and research in the medical specialty of General Practice.
The College has a national advisory role in relation to medical standards and engages with the Medical Council, Department of Health and Children, the Health Service Executive and the Health Information & Quality Authority among others.
As a membership organisation, the Irish College of GP's is responsible for providing and supporting the continuous professional development for general practitioners, numbering over 4,000.

The School of Medicine is one of five schools within the College of Medicine and Health in UCC and has a rich tradition of teaching, research and scholarship.
The Department of General Practice is responsible for the delivery of general practice teaching in three of the five years of the medical undergraduate course.
Active research interests include older person care, dementia care, chronic disease management, multi-morbidity and polypharmacy and the primary care management of diabetes.
About the fellowship: This fellowship is designed to provide a comprehensive blend of research, clinical practice, and educational development, with the aim of enhancing dementia care through innovative research, clinical excellence, and targeted education.
The fellowship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside leading experts in the field, engage with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute significantly to both academic and practical advancements in dementia care.
  Key Result Areas    1.     Research and Audit Activities (2 days per week)       Conduct a scoping review of international guidelines for dementia care in general practice.
      Produce scholarly articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals       Update the Irish College of GP's Quality Improvement Program (QIP) Dementia Quick Reference Guide.
      Complete a practice audit and develop dementia care audit tools.
2.     Clinical Practice (2 days per week) Provide general practice care, with an enhanced focus on care of the older person.
Participate in multidisciplinary Primary Care Team meetings.
Supervise medical students on clinical placement and contribute to their education.
Receive clinical tutorials to enhance practical skills and knowledge.
3.     Educational and Career Development Activities (1 day per week) Attend relevant specialist clinics e.g.
the Memory Clinic and the ICPOP Hub.
Participate in relevant seminars, conferences, and research workshops.
Engage in research skills training, including courses on scoping reviews and academic writing.
Contribute to the teaching of GP Registrars on the Cork GP Training Scheme.
Person Specification The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, expertise, and competencies: Qualifications and experience   Essential Medical degree and postgraduate training in general practice/family medicine.
Candidate has to be within 2 years of completing their CSCST A fully qualified GP with MICGP, current member of the College in good standing.
Desirable Master's/MD/PhD in a relevant discipline Evidence of peer reviewed publications Educational qualifications and previous experience working in an undergraduate or postgraduate general practice department   Technical competencies Excellent ICT skills with initiative to maximise technology to increase efficiencies.
Must be highly competent in all MS packages, especially Word and Excel.
Experience with IBM SPSS or equivalent data analytic software   Behavioural competencies   Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a dynamic environment.  Proven analytical and problem-solving skills,   Excellent written and verbal communication skills (must have fluent English) and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.  Excellent presentation skills Strong attention to detail, with the ability to ensure accuracy and quality in the systems administration process.  Competent, conscientious, and motivated, with a methodical approach to work.   Must enjoy working in a high energy fast paced environment and have the ability to meet tight deadlines.   Ability to win the confidence of stakeholders, researchers and research partner representatives.
A capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently, in a non-structured environment.
