Position Description Community Relations & Fisheries resides within the Renewables Operations business area of ESB's Generation & Trading Business Unit. When ESB's hydro generation operations were established in Ireland, ESB took on the responsibility of managing, conducting and preserving the fisheries across the rivers where we operate. Our hydro generation stations continue to play a key role in reducing our carbon footprint under ESB's Brighter Future strategy and requires the support of the ESB Fisheries Conservation team.
The team works across a wide range of activities each year, with particular focus on operating our three salmon conservation hatcheries, rolling out the river habitat enhancement programme, delivering the eel trap and transport programme, as well as the management of our fisheries. The Community Relations team seeks to coordinate a proactive approach to the management of community relations across thermal, wind, hydro, fisheries and other BU HO functions.
Our Corporate Strategy calls for ESB to step forward on our Environmental & Social responsibilities. ESB Fisheries has recently updated its strategy and it calls for transformational change as to how we carry out our business. The revised strategy calls for a further focus on sustainability whilst adopting a nature positive approach to our operations. There will be a requirement to increase our engagements across local communities as well as supporting the planned upgrade to many of our fish connectivity plant systems and processes in the coming years. This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to drive transformational change across all areas of people, processes and plant within Fisheries Conservation. Support for the Community Relations area, and indeed other areas within the Business Unit may also feature as part of this role, as appropriate.
The successful candidate will be a key middle manager within the Fisheries Group. They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, manage, and develop and motivate team members. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels both within ESB and across key external stakeholders. As required by the business, the successful candidate will give and receive training as required by management.
Key Responsibilities The key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to the following:
Lead all Fisheries Group operations so as to optimise the available resources whilst driving improvements with their safety, sustainability and environmental obligations.Drive the transformation of the Fisheries Group both in terms of organisation and culture.Lead the change process necessary in bringing people, processes and plant in line with the updated strategy.Manage all operations across the range of Fisheries obligations.Pro-actively engage with all key internal & external stakeholders and governmental agencies, and become intimately aware of the various regulatory, licensing and legislative frameworks under which the Fisheries Group is operating.Be a Safety Leader and ensure that normal and emergency business procedures are maintained, updated and adhered to for the safety of personnel and the integrity of fisheries assets.Operate in the Nominated Safety Engineer, PSDP and PSCS Safety Roles for the Fisheries Group as required.Whilst acting as Fisheries Asset Manager, develop the Life Time Asset Plan (LTAP) for the area and manage the annual LTAP process.Contribute to the development of an informed and empowered workforce through good communications, My Goals & My Development processes, teamwork, accountability, and key performance measures.Pro-actively support the Supervisory Group across the range of Staffing matters to help ensure all team members are performing to their full potential.Ensure that the necessary budgetary resources are secured and drawn down, to meet the operational requirements for the Fisheries Group.Drive the use of all business systems within the area (e.g. Initiafy, SHIELD etc).To carry out any additional work requests as required by management.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Have 7+ years relevant experience.Be self-motivated and have the ability to contribute to the Community Relations & Fisheries Team effectiveness.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Have the ability to lead, empower and motivate staff to deliver effective operational performance.Previous experience and managing staff in a line management role.Qualifications A primary science, engineering or environmental degree or similar, or equivalent work experience.Location This position is based in Ardnacrusha, Co Limerick. Where some SMART Working arrangements may feature as part of this role, the successful candidate will mainly be on the ground managing Fisheries Operations and driving transformation.
Reporting to The successful candidate will report to the Community Relations & Fisheries Manager.
