The Colas Group operates internationally in all aspects of transport infrastructure. As part of the global organisation, Colas Ireland is primarily involved in the distribution of bitumen products, emulsion and emulsifier manufacturing, and the provision of specialist road maintenance services on the national, regional and local road network. In Ireland, Colas operates from 14 locations across the island of Ireland.
Short DescriptionReporting to the Group Health & Safety Manager, you will be looking after the Health and Safety function for Colas Contracting Ltd, ensuring compliance with all legal aspects of Health and Safety. This will include establishing and communicating policies to other employees and line managers to create and maintain a safe workplace and implementing a continuous improvement philosophy for Colas Contracting Ltd. As a safety adviser, you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. This role will include dealing with our sub-contractors to ensure they meet and adhere to the Colas safety standards.
The role will be located in our operational base in Kilcolgan, Co Galway. Colas Contracting Ltd provides specialist maintenance services across the island of Ireland, on all road categories during both day and night shifts. The successful applicant will be expected to be available for site visits and scheduled auditing in support of these operations. A significant portion of time will be spent on site or travelling between sites.
Applicants must have a full driving licence.
Main ResponsibilitiesHealth and Safety Culture Develop, implement, and monitor the safety program to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and technical standards.Build relationships with all parties for the implementation of Safe T Cert/ISO 45001 management systems.Responsible for providing advice, monitoring & recording compliance & non-compliance on HEALTH & SAFETY matters on all business issues.Planning frequent HEALTH & SAFETY inspections & audits, ensuring coverage of all activities and in line with company protocols.KPI's Management and reporting on Safety KPIs, with the core objective of promoting compliance and continual improvements in line with the Colas Strategy.Health and Safety performance goals in consultation with the Group Health & Safety Manager.ProfileEducation Degree or equivalent qualification (Occupational Safety and Health, Construction, Engineering is desirable).Professionally qualified - minimum Level 7 / Diploma or Equivalent.Managing Safely in Construction is desirable.The ability to implement change and work in a diverse environment.Energetic, ethical, enthusiastic, calm and steady under pressure.Good organizational and motivational skills.Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.Good communication (written and oral) and interpersonal abilities.Willing to travel around Ireland including overnights.
