Purpose: Responsible for improving processes in the manufacturing environment through the deployment of Lean Principles, Systems and Tools.
Projects will incorporate lean manufacturing, theory of constraints, layout design, Just-In-Time, Methods-Time Measurement, or a variety of other system improvement philosophies.
The employee will be required to create strong relationships with team members internal and external to Boston Scientific to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities: Implements improvements to existing lean tools / systems, by leading project teams to bring about change and facilitating the removal of barriers to ensure successful outcomes.
Research, scope and implement new technologies and methods, to support the Industrial Engineering and Operational Excellence team objectives.
Use DMAIC or Problem Solving techniques to analyze, create and implement manufacturing improvements that increase capacity, reduce cycle-time, eliminate non-valued added work, reduce inventory and improve efficiency.
Utilize demand planning forecast numbers to complete capacity analysis for headcount, equipment and space requirements using simulation software or other effective tools.
Design and procurement of customized workbench / storage solutions which align with lean principles and delivered within budget.
Performs times studies and work analysis to identify all the waste opportunities and ensure headcount utilization can be optimized.
Ownership of space strategy for assigned production area and ensure "free space" is created strategically to allow for improved flow and / or provision for new / additional production lines to support increased volume / new product introduction.
Designs & Execute area layouts using an appropriate tool (AutoCAD or draft site) to optimise safety and ergonomic working position, quality, work content, product flow or space utilization in line with area or site needs.
Project management of area layout changes through strong relationship management with engineering, production, facilities, quality and external contractors.
Influence new product implementation.
Working with PD & NPE & suppliers on process design changes to impact PSQSC.
Influences the Terms and Conditions of NPE, includes new elements that advance the programs.
Sets Engineering standards appropriately and drives higher yielding, lower cost, more manufacturable products.
May use financial analyses tool and recommend alternative courses of action Sets engineering standards for area and project manages the setting of engineering time standards per policy annually.
Lead Kaizen Events: Use kaizens events as an engagement and execution tool to achieve/excess production/ functional or STAR goals.
Subject matter expert in a range of Lean tools with the ability to teach others and run training programs.
Education & Experience Required: Hons Bachelors Degree in a relevant Engineering / Science degree.
Minimum of 4+ years' experience within a manufacturing environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and meet targets/goals efficiently.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated decision making skills.
People management experience is advantageous.
