Infrastructure Decommission Technician, Network and Cable Decom (NCD)Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast-paced technology company and a leader in the world of Cloud Computing. We are currently expanding our decommissioning team and are looking for a proven network and cable decommissioning technician with a robust technical understanding of network and infrastructure. The Network & Cable Decommissioning team (NCD) is looking to hire a highly motivated, self-driven decommissioning technician who will work closely with project managers, network engineers, and operations teams to recover rack space, power, remove cabling infrastructure, and sanitize legacy network equipment. The NCD Tech will be responsible for executing assigned efforts and communicating status updates of those tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Physical decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.Manage assigned work and priorities through ticketing system and/or workflows.Provide status updates to stakeholders via ticketing system.Effectively coordinate and deliver multiple tasks concurrently.Exhibit quality workmanship on all work and maintain Data Center cleanliness.Effectively leverage the logical tools and systems that are provided.Follow all production, safety and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove obstacles.Read and comprehend datacenter build documentation and site-specific layout material.Travel within geographical work area is required, up to 25% travel outside traditional work area may be required depending on your primary region.Scope effort assigned, validate all work is ready for decommissioning, create change requests to perform work, and timely execute effort that has been assigned.All efforts need to be documented via ticketing system.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 3+ years in-depth knowledge of copper and fiber optics.2+ years of in-depth knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, such as VFL, power meter, and OTDR.2+ years' experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.2+ years' experience troubleshooting cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels and patch cords.2+ years' experience coordinating work and priorities through ticketing system and workflows.Familiarity with common networking terms.ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work autonomously and drive efforts to completion.Broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively read, write, and give oral presentations.Familiarity with network cabling failure scenarios.Comfortable with medium to large, complex tasks and ambiguous details within the work environment.Excellent judgment and analytical skills, ability to prioritize tasks based on fluctuating needs.Strong prioritization and time management ability.Experience physically installing/decommissioning large scale Data Center network infrastructure cabling.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment and stand for long periods of time in the datacenters and/or on a ladder.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
