We are seeking a Lab Inspector Trainee to join our team! Under the general supervision of the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Inspector provides QC Test Support functions for the Laboratory Department, all IES Terminals including Kapolei and Neighbor Islands, and Retail locations. Desired competencies include proven analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. The ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment. The Lab Inspector is expected to have sound knowledge of Excel and Word Microsoft Office Suite programs. Prior relevant experience in refinery and/or manufacturing industries is preferred.
QualificationsEducation and Experience AA or AS Degree, or equivalent 2+ years of work experience in a Technical or Analytical field.Preferred Qualifications BS Chemistry or equivalent Degree from an accredited college/university.2 years of laboratory experience.Refinery, Energy, Chemical, LPG plant, Fuels Terminal experience.Ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve Test Equipment issues and Erroneous Test results.Skills Ability to uphold strict ethical standards: integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality.Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills, including editing and proofreading.Ability to maintain automated and manual record-keeping systems.Strong sense of team spirit and ability to transfer it to others.Ability to work independently.Ability to evaluate information and exercise good judgment in making decisions.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.Problem-solving—the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information as appropriate.Interpersonal Skills—the individual maintains confidentiality, remains open to others' ideas, and exhibits a willingness to try new things.Oral communication—the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations and demonstrates group presentation skills. Ability to provide excellent customer service and customer relations.Written Communication—the individual edits work for spelling and grammar, presents numerical data effectively, and can read and interpret written information.Planning/organizing—the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and develops realistic action plans.Quality control—the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors their own work to ensure quality.Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, and can deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.Dependability—the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.Safety and Security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.Other Requirements Willingness to commit to The Island Way (IES core values of): Kina?ole, Aloha, Lokahi, and Ho?ohana.Strong commitment to a Culture of Excellence and embodiment through action the 4B's of how we Believe, Behave, Belong, and Become.Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.This is a safety-sensitive position and random drug testing is required.Valid driver's license with clean abstract.Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet packet and task deadlines.Willingness to maintain or increase skills.Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.Must be able to work rotating Day and occasional Night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.ResponsibilitiesMajor Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performs a wide variety of tests on fuel samples and finished products per established procedures.Test methods vary from simple methods such as density/gravity, color, and viscosity to more complex methods such as knock (octane) testing, automatic distillation and titration, gas chromatography, etc.Checks test results against specifications.Utilizes standard Quality Control / Quality Assurance processes to ensure accuracy and precision of results.Provides analysis and test results that are technically sound, legally defensible, and free of undue influence within an agreed-upon timeframe.Validates data, performs calculations, and reports test results.Checks and calibrates equipment, reviews test methods, and performs minor preventive or corrective maintenance within an agreed-upon timeframe.Ability to identify Test Equipment issues and Erroneous Test results.Participates in laboratory audits.Handles multiple, concurrent assignments while managing priorities with customers.Review issued electronic communications such as Information & Job Tasks for the Day, Email audible directives, and routine duties for the shift are completed.Accountable for maintaining general housekeeping of assigned work area.Conduct Fire & Safety equipment inspections in the Laboratory.Teamwork – Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; and respecting the diversity of the IES workforce in actions, words, and deeds.Maintains commitment to a high standard of safety, comply with all safety laws and IES safety policies/rules and report actual and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel to further IES core value of safety.Other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.CompensationThis is a negotiated union position and is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 1260. The starting hourly pay rate is $35.00/hour.
