About us: St James's Hospital is Ireland's largest acute academic teaching hospital and is based in Dublin's south inner city.
Our fundamental purpose is the delivery of health treatment, care and diagnosis as well as health promotion and preventative services at local, regional and national levels.
Purpose of the role: The role of the Medical Scientist in Haematology is to provide a comprehensive laboratory service and participate as a team member in the delivery of effective, efficient, quality assured and patient centred laboratory service.
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of the department.
The department provides a 7 day/week On-call service and other out of hours rosters that staff can participate in.
The Haematology laboratory department is the largest and most wide-ranging in Ireland.
It provides a comprehensive laboratory testing service to the hospital and to general practitioners and hospitals nationwide.
The department comprises the Cell Counting & Blood cell Morphology Laboratory, the National Coagulation Laboratory, the Cryobiology Laboratory and Stem Cell facility and includes the Clinical Flow Cytometry and Haemoglobinopathy laboratory.
The department supports the National Adult Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Centre, the National Adult CAR T cell therapy centre, the National Coagulation Centre and the National Adult Haemoglobinopathy service at St James's Hospital.
