Reporting day-to-day to the Director of National Governing Bodies, the National Governing Bodies (NGBs) Development Manager at Sport Ireland will play a crucial role in advancing the capabilities and competencies of Sport Ireland recognised NGBs. Ensuring NGBs possess the leadership skills necessary for effective sport governance, this position is instrumental in fostering the growth and success of Sport Ireland recognised NGBs nationwide.
The primary purpose of the National Governing Bodies Development Manager is to lead the development initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies of NGBs. This role is dedicated to ensuring that NGBs, across a diverse range of organisations, have the requisite leadership capabilities to navigate challenges, drive growth, and effectively govern their respective sports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Governing Bodies Development Manager will have an organisation-wide remit within Sport Ireland, with the following duties and responsibilities:
Collaborate with internal Sport Ireland business units to align NGB development initiatives with Sport Ireland's broader strategic objectives. Identify gaps in NGB governance, operational, financial, and leadership processes, and develop targeted strategies to address these areas, fostering continuous improvement and sustainable growth. Establish and maintain effective communication channels with NGBs, fostering collaboration and understanding of their unique needs. Monitor and evaluate the impact of NGB development programmes, adjusting strategies to ensure maximum effectiveness. Work closely with relevant Sport Ireland business units to assess current NGB capabilities and capacities and identify areas for skill development. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and evolving challenges in sports governance to provide relevant support to NGBs. Keep up to date with demographic shifts, societal changes, and the challenges and opportunities related to diversity and inclusion, women in sport, and participation trends, in order to provide relevant support to NGBs. Prepare regular reports for the Director of National Governing Bodies and senior management, providing insights and recommendations on the progress and impact of NGB development initiatives. Deliver bespoke support and expert guidance to volunteer-led National Governing Bodies, enhancing leadership capabilities, fostering a culture of good governance, and addressing their specific organisational challenges. Provide expert guidance and support to NGBs in key areas, including strategic planning, governance frameworks, and enhancing overall organisational effectiveness. Collaborate with key Sport Ireland business units to develop and implement tailored development programmes and initiatives to enhance leadership skills within NGBs and to design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and resources to empower NGB leaders and executives. The above is not an exhaustive list and the role will include any duties required by Sport Ireland from time to time which are appropriate for the position and the needs of the organisation.
Person Specification: Essential: Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The ideal candidate for the role of National Governing Bodies Development Manager should possess:
A relevant degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in sports development, governance, or a related field. Proven expertise in designing and delivering development programmes and implementing strategies, preferably within the context of National Governing Bodies of Sport. A strategic mindset, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement in sports governance. Strong project management skills with a focus on delivering results in a dynamic environment. A passion for the growth and success of sport at the national level is expected, along with a commitment to staying updated on industry trends and best practices. A high proficiency in MS Office applications. Excellent management skills with experience in fostering collaboration and maintaining a high-performance work environment. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Desirable: Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proven track record of successfully coordinating and managing the execution of strategic initiatives in a leadership role. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategies that align with organisational goals. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and inspire change. Strategic thinker with a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving. Collaborative mindset, capable of building strong relationships across diverse teams. Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on trends and best practices. A high level of experience in stakeholder engagement. A full driving license and access to a vehicle. Additional Information: Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary Scale: Higher Executive Officer Standard Scale. The appointment will be made on this scale at a point in line with current Government Pay Policy. New entrants to the public sector commence on the first point of scale.
