Key job responsibilitiesA Network Development Engineer is responsible for engineering, implementation, scalability, operations, reliability, and sustainability of our next-generation networks. An NDE will utilise their networking skills along with our advanced tools and systems to invent, refine and develop automation and mechanisms to reduce manual operations. Our Engineers think at "Amazon scale" to solve problems in permanent, sustainable, and scalable ways, with an eye towards utilising the best solution over the quickest solution. The work will include:
Leading network projects in the areas of network sustaining engineering, network deployment/implementation, network scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or network optimizationInfluencing our operations function, responding to customer impact events and requests, troubleshooting, and fixing and improving the automation that runs our networkAnalysing the network using tools and metrics to ensure it is operating correctly, safely and securelyInvestigating technical issues scientifically and thoroughly, and assist in fixing complex problems so they don't come backSuccessfully planning, delivering and simplifying new systems, processes, and tools to better deliver for our customersDelivering sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, optimising and removing bottlenecksUnderstanding new and upcoming networking systems and developing ways of safely implementing them into our environmentAbout the teamCollaborate with and learn from the best networking engineers in the worldGet to develop, build and operate networks at the very largest scale, in an organisation that values its engineers and promotes innovation and ownershipBe part of a unique team that's dedicated to history-making programmesStart a career path in one of the largest and most successful tech companies with a near-endless opportunity to explore and growBASIC QUALIFICATIONSA relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large-scale network environment.Experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with routing protocols/technologies and platforms in large scale data centre and/or Wide Area Networking (WAN) environments.Experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP networking systems.Experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.Knowledge & experience of interacting with many network devices at a time through any of networking configuration tools, Infrastructure as Code or scripting.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSThorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, and Network Security architecture and core technologies such as IP, TCP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, load balancers, firewalls, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, IP address management.Knowledge & experience of Linux or other Unix operating systemsUnderstands different networking hardware and packet forwarding architecturesProficiency in scripting/programming with one or more of Python (preferred), Perl, Ruby, Shell, Java, etc.
