Part Time Senior Dietitian, Regional Specialist Memory Clinic(RSMC), Purpose of the Post This Senior Dietitian post in the RSMC is part of a new service development in the Mercy University Hospital, Cork. An assessment unit has recently been established on the campus, which aims to provide an enhanced assessment service for patients with complex or uncertain presentations of dementia, under the clinical governance of the Consultant Geriatrician.
The Dietitian aligned with the service will perform a clinical role as well as contributing to the service development of the RSMC and dietetic department and all appropriate educational requirements commensurate to the service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities As a member of a multidisciplinary team, undertake specialist nutritional assessment and identify the nutritional needs of individuals To act as a therapeutic dietitian for patients, advising, implementing and monitoring the nutritional care plans of the individuals under their remit using evidence based practice.
Work in conjunction with other team members in coordinating and developing the service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organisation Work inter- professionally communicating effectively with patients and the other members of the MDT at all times and under the supervision of the RSMC Consultant Physician To work with networked teams outside of the hospital to promote appropriate follow up for patients following the initial assessment performed within the RSMC.
Be responsible for the provision of a high quality dietetics service to the RSMC Service and to carry out clinical and educational duties as required Develop, manage and evaluate the Dietetics service to RSMC in conjunction with the Dietetics Manager and the team at the RSMC as deemed necessary to meet objectives and service key performance indicators Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of dietetic care pathways, effective and efficient referral processes, protocols and other resources in line with operational principles of the dietetic service.
Engage in the Performance Achievement agenda of the hospital as well as team based performance and own CPD Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance.
Know the limits of own practice and when to seek advice or refer to another health professional.
Prioritise and manage a patient caseload according to the needs of the department and service.
Recognise the need for effective self management of workload, available time and resources.
Work in a manner that maintains patient/client confidentiality and that upholds the client's and families'/carers' trust.
Develop and Implement policies, protocols, guidelines and care plans, as required for the benefit of best nutrition practice in providing for the dietetic needs of the patient therefore, abiding by the National Strategies and Policies in order to maintain best practice in their assigned area.
Participate in audit, clinical research and other quality improvement projects that maintain high quality services.
Assist in the development of diet sheets and nutrition education material in collaboration with colleagues Contribute to development, implementation and evaluation of standards and policies within the hospital, the service and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Comply with professional, CORU, hospital and department policies, procedures and standards of care.
Initiate and/or participate in initiatives within their specialist area or the department in general, that enhance the standard of care to clients.
Promote a high standard of service, which respects the role of other health professionals and works in accordance with relevant codes of practice and clinical governance.
Contribute to the development and implementation of databases, information and audit systems and shared care arrangements.
Data input in relation to clinical work for easy access by the Dietetic manager Provide leadership to Staff Grade Dietitian through the process of professional supervision, mentoring and tutoring with a view to enabling the dietitian to identify areas for skill development. Represent the clinical nutrition & dietetic service at meetings committees and project work.

Comply with the Dietitian's Registration Board Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
Undertake other appropriate responsibilities consistent with the nature of the post as specified by Dietetics Manager Engage in research, education and training to ensure high clinical standards Eligibility Criteria Qualifications and/ or experience Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.
And Have 3 years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years full time) post qualification dietetic experience.
And Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
And Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued .
1. Annual Registration On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.
And Practitioners confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
