Phd Position In Experimental Quantum Technologies With Quantum Dots

Details of the offer

PhD Position in Experimental Quantum Technologies with Quantum Dots: Developing Photonic Cluster State Sources Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term The Epitaxy and Physics of Nanostructures (EPN) group at Tyndall National Institution and University College Cork is offering a PhD position in experimental quantum technologies with quantum dots. The focus is on developing a photonic prototype device for multi-entangled photon sources, crucial for Quantum Information Processing.
About Us The EPN group is renowned for its pioneering work in site-controlled quantum dots, with significant publications in Nature Photonics and Phys. Rev. Lett. (see the seminal research works: G. Juska, et al. Nature Photonics 7, 527 (2013), T. H. Chung, et al. Nature Photonics 10, 782 (2016), V. Dimastrodonato, et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 256102 (2012)). We specialize in quantum technology research, quantum optics, and epitaxial growth by MOVPE.
Key Responsibilities and Research Objectives Our project addresses the scalability bottleneck in photonic quantum information processing. Current technologies struggle with maintaining coherence and handling parallel calculations. Our approach leverages measurement-based quantum computing with multi-dimensional photonic cluster states.
We aim to develop a prototype source using uniquely scalable, site-controlled, paired semiconductor quantum dots (QDs). These customizable QDs offer precise engineering of molecular states, enabling two-dimensional states on-demand without the need for resource-heavy fusion gates.
Position description Conduct extensive spectroscopic studies of QD energetic structures.Establish spin coherence enhancement schemes and implement spin-photon and spin-spin entangling protocols.Advisor: Dr. Gediminas JuskaThe candidate will engage closely with the EPN team, contributing to a collaborative, feedback-driven environment.
Additional Responsibilities Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities.Ensure compliance with Tyndall's Quality Management, and Health and Safety standards.Perform additional duties as required within the scope of the post.Essential Criteria A first-class honors degree (or equivalent international degree) in physics, electronic engineering, or a related discipline focused on material and quantum properties.Master's degrees in related fields are preferred and will receive preferential consideration.Desirable Criteria Experience in quantum optics or related research areasThe annual stipend is €22,000 pa. In addition, yearly University academic fees will be paid by the Tyndall National Institute.
Informal enquiries concerning these positions can be made to Dr. Gediminas Juska (******).
The closing date for applications is 30th August, 2024
Application Instructions Postgraduate applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency as per UCC regulations (https://www.ucc.ie/en/study/comparison/english/postgraduate/). Certificates should be valid (usually less than 2 years old) and should be uploaded with their application.
Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
The University, at its discretion, may undertake to make an additional appointment(s) from this competition following the conclusion of the process.
Please note that an appointment to posts advertised will be dependent on University approval, together with the terms of the employment control framework for the higher education sector.
At this time, Tyndall National Institute does not require the assistance of recruitment agencies.
Tyndall National Institute at University College, Cork is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
