Post-doctoral Researcher – development of advanced photonic integrated circuits for quantum computing Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
The Integrated Photonics Group in Tyndall National Institute at University College Cork invites applications for a Post-doctoral Researcher who will lead the development of advanced photonic integrated circuits, which will be used for quantum computing. The successful candidate will have completed a PhD degree in an engineering or physics related discipline. This position is primarily concerned with developing ultra-low loss modulators and switches for quantum computation.
Key ResponsibilitiesTo drive and conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator.To participate in the dissemination of the results of the research, as directed by and with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.To engage and collaborate in the wider research activities of the Research Group, School or College.To interact closely with postgraduate research students who are studying for a Masters or a PhD and have an agreed role in supporting these students in their day to day research in conjunction with the supervisor or supervision team.To lead and conduct administrative and management work associated with the research project.Essential CriteriaThe successful candidate will have completed at least a PhD degree in physics or engineering related discipline.Strong experience in III-V based active photonic devices design, fabrication, and characterisation.Experience in optical and material modelling and simulation, including optical propagation, FDTD and heterostructure design.Experience in a complete device fabrication.A good team spirit to work well with other team members.Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities, as required.Ensure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system and with the required Health and Safety standards.Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.Desirable CriteriaEvidence of entrepreneurial experience.Evidence of creative skills/creativity.Experience in fabrication process development.Knowledge of integrated quantum photonics.Experience with Fimmprop, OmniSim and Harold software.Experience with a mask layout software, for example OptoDesigner, IPKISS or similar.Programming skills in C/C++, Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW.Tyndall National Institute has a proactive entrepreneurial culture and we welcome applications from candidates who possess entrepreneurial and creative skills/experience, including the creation of technology start-ups.
Appointment may be made on the Postdoctoral Researcher scale € 44,847 - €51,313 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
