Private Estate Head Gardener

The Gardner is responsible for maintaining the glasshouses, well established, mature walled garden, formal garden and assorted beds around the estate. He/she is asked to also assist with the maintenance of the fruit and specimen tress.

Full time position. Working hours typically 8.00-16.30.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Lead, direct and motivate the garden team by example with a hands-on positive attitude. Develop annual budget and ensure effective budget control on all cost and expenditure areas. Develop a plan for the walled garden and implement it to ensure the garden is at its best in the summer months. Liaise with other garden professionals to ensure best practice. Promote continuous learning within the team Liaise with grounds and maintenance staff to ensure the estate activities are run efficiently and safely. Plan and develop the herbaceous beds as required. Ensure all fruit trees, fruit bushes, vegetable patches and beds are planted & maintained Perform routine garden maintenance tasks such as weeding, pruning, cutting back, infilling and spraying Plant trees, scrubs and flowers as required. Perform basic maintenance of properties in the garden Liaise with grounds and maintenance staff to ensure the estate activities are run efficiently and safely. Weekend watering may be required during the summer months. Minimum Level 6 Horticultural qualification required
