Purpose of the Role: The buyer role is to support the Commercial Category Manager in the management of the day to day buying, operations and profitability of the category.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities: Undertake packhouse walks daily to check quality, quantities, reasons for rejection, shelf life, waste, etc.
Develop sales forecasts for the planning and operations team on a weekly basis.
Liaising with operations department on the production plan, stock allocation and efficiency savings.
Stock planning on a weekly / monthly basis.
Balance stock daily to ensure availability.
Liaising with transport department to organise inbound and outbound transportation.
Follow up on claims within category on level agreed with Procurement/ Category Manager.
Compare actual demand against forecast and procure to manage gaps.
Negotiation of the best possible pricing from suppliers.
Review profitability of category and report into Head of Procurement in Procurement/ Category Manager's absence.
Reduce invoice queries and PO issues with Accounts Department.
Deliver NPD / innovation through liaising with suppliers to identify new products and opportunities for Sales.
Working with Procurement Category Manager, Technical and Sales counterparts to deliver quality and service level.
Negotiation of pricing, specifications, promotions with customers in conjunction with S&M team.
Meet all customer deadlines.
Any other duties assigned by your Manager.
Spot purchasing from the open market to protect against potential risks to the supply chain.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Delivery service level.
Quality service level.
Category waste %.
Claims successfully attained.
Accuracy of PO's.
Key Skills & Knowledge Essential : Ability to work on own initiative on project based tasks.
Attention to detail and proven problem solving skills.
Results orientated.
Highly numerate and analytical with ability to interpret data.
Excellent IT skills e.g.
MS Excel.
Good Communication skills.
Ability to build relationships and deal with customers and suppliers in a courteous and professional manner.
Flexible and resilient.
Desirable: Previous buying experience within fresh produce industry highly desirable Education & Qualifications: 3 rd level education in Business, Procurement or related discipline.
Qualification in CIPS or other similar procurement qualification desirable but not essential.
Additional relevant information: (e.g.
requirement for travel, specific projects or targets for the role) This role may involve travel overseas from time to time in order to meet our grower base.
