A Day in the Life Support research, design and development of next generation VCF (Vertebral compression fracture) products.
This Individual's responsibilities would include design tasks, documentation, testing and fixture design.

Our Purpose At our Medtronic, plc, R&D (Research & Development) Department in Galway, Ireland, we focus on the development of cutting-edge medical devices in the Coronary, Structural Heart, PVH, Cardiac Rhythm Management and Neuromodulation space.
Our R&D Engineers are directly involved in working on the development of innovative products for use in medical procedures.
Medtronic pioneered the field of neuromodulation with the first commercially available spinal cord stimulation (SCS) to treat chronic pain and engineered the first deep brain stimulation (DBS) system to treat disorders such as Parkinson's disease.
We have gone on to develop the first implantable drug pump for the delivery of medication directly to the intrathecal space of the spine, inventing the first balloon kyphoplasty devices for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures and developing RF ablation systems to treat spinal tumors.

A Day in The Life Of: Within our R&D Department in Medtronic Neuromodulation, one key area of focus for reducing pain for patients is Interventional Pain.
Interventional Pain develops minimally invasive therapies that treat musculoskeletal pathologies such as vertebral compression fractures, nerve pain, metastatic and benign bone tumors.
The employee will be part of a team that defines, develops and tests new products for the Neuromodulation business.
Design, develop, test, analyze, troubleshoot, and provide technical skills during research and product development for products and procedures in bone and soft tissue per medical device standards and internal procedures Translate product and user research into requirements and product specifications Will provide technical support to product and process development and on-field related activities such as clinical programs and complaint investigations Translate ideas into CAD 3D renderings and drawings using software like Solidworks Participate in design reviews and technical drawing reviews Design and develop test methods and fixture Write and execute hardware verification and validation protocols Write test reports documenting verification and validation Support maintenance of commercially released products on an as needed basis Coordinate and guide suppliers, vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of deliverables Troubleshoot equipment and product issues that occur during day-to-day R&D work to provide technical solutions Work in multidiscipline teams for planning and implementing the introduction of new products, in line with marketing plans and undertaking specific projects as designated in support of the business activities of Medtronic.
Monitor and evaluate safety practices and ensure compliance with legislation and understand and operate departmental and company quality procedures.
Key Skills & Experience Level 8 Degree in Engineering / Science or related discipline with minimum 1 year's relevant direct engineering experience.
Medical device technology experience, ideally in interventional vascular devices would be advantageous.
