Summary of Post RCSI currently has a position available for a research assistant in an EU Pathfinder project ( The project will be carried out in the Department of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Science groups of Prof. Hurley and Prof. Cryan at RCSI.
The project will focus on the application of advanced materials and processing developed within the consortium for bioengineering applications.
The researcher will work closely with other members of multidisciplinary project teams in both departments, researchers in the polymer chemistry Laboratory at RCSI as well as members of the European project consortium.
Applicants should have a B.Sc.
in biomedical sciences with a focus on translational medicine, pharmaceutical science, biomedical science or biomedical engineering.
A M.Sc.
in a related field and experience in biomaterials development or cell culture would be beneficial but not essential.
Specifically, the duties of the post are: Day to day management and delivery of the scientific work associated with the research grant.
Collect and record experimental data.
Data processing, analysis and report writing Regular presentation of results at weekly lab meetings and other meetings as necessary.
The candidate will work with researchers at various training levels and would be expected to provide support for general lab procedures, stock maintenance and lab maintenance.
The candidate would be expected to carry out some lab management duties Supervision of undergraduate students working in the lab.
Attend project meetings and seminars as necessary.
Other such duties as may be assigned from time to time Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety Qualifications - (Essential): Applicants should have a B.Sc.
in materials science, pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, biomedical science or biomedical engineering.
A M.Sc.
degree in a related field would be beneficial but not essential.
Knowledge & Experience: Specific skills that would enhance suitability include: Experience in pharmaceutical and/or biomedical materials development Mammalian cell culture Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential Excellent organisational skills Ability to work successfully and engage positively with colleagues, collaborators and project stakeholders.
Knowledge & Experience (Desirable): Experience in pharmaceutical and/or biomedical materials development, advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing processes (e.g.
nanomanufacturing, 3D printing), mammalian cell culture, stem cell culture and differentiation, molecular and/or cellular biology skills and pre-clinical testing of healthcare technologies.
