The ADAPT Centre, (the Centre for Digital Content Technology), hosted by the School of Computer Science & Statistics, is seeking to appoint a Research Co-ordinator to facilitate efficient integration of research tasks and outputs across disparate research groups at multiple research institutions. This is achieved through the application of scientific expertise, technical know-how and research management skills.
The successful candidate supports & pro-actively works with researchers in collaborating across themes, across projects and across member institutions within the ADAPT centre. The Research Co-ordinator oversees the planning, management and the execution of integration work-plans across themes, projects and institutions.
The position, based in Trinity College Dublin, will be responsible for the planning, managing and monitoring of the executive workplan across the research themes. The position provides a vital role in helping to identify and assess research outputs for IP protection and commercial potential and for facilitating cross-ADAPT research collaborations.
Given the cross-institutional nature of this role, the appointee will be required, from time to time, to travel to DCU, UCD and DIT.
Principle Duties and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Research Programme Manager and working closely with the DCU-based Research Co-ordinator:
Plan, manage and monitor the execution of ADAPT work-plans across teams and institutions in conjunction with research team leaders in a pro-active manner.Track, monitor and report on progress and performance. Mitigate risk and take corrective action as required.Specifically monitor inter-team and inter-institution dependencies, alerting relevant stakeholders to potential issues and proposing corrective action.Contribute to the research themes in designing technical solutions in the areas of digital content technology research.Track, monitor and report on the progress of the research themes in carrying out the ADAPT research programme.Provide regular updates on progress to relevant stakeholders, alerting them to emerging issues or timeline slippage in a timely fashion.Contribute to the preparation of Governance/annual/quarterly and metrics reports as appropriate.Guide post-doctoral researchers and academic supervisors in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams and assisting them in the creation of their collaborative work-plans and schedules.Identify, facilitate and, where needed, drive collaboration initiatives across ADAPT's member institutions and research themes.Support and directly contribute to high quality collaborative research, publishable in top international journals.Liaise closely with ADAPT's Intellectual Property Manager and Commercialisation Manager in assessing research outputs for IP protection and commercial potential.Liaise closely with ADAPT's EU Research Managers to identify opportunities for researchers to coordinate and/or contribute to H2020 projects.Assist the Operations team in the planning and organisation of demonstration of collaborative research outcomes at public events. Help researchers to present their work in a manner suitable to the relevant audience.Company:ADAPT Center
Qualifications:The successful candidate will have a Computer Science or Computer Engineering background with a postgraduate qualification to PhD in a relevant field or equivalent working experience in a relevant field (e.g. Personalisation, Digital Content Management, Information Retrieval, Human Computer Interaction, Natural Language Processing, Machine Translation and Speech Technology).
Knowledge & ExperienceEssential Background in one or more of the ADAPT Centre's research areas (e.g. Personalisation, Digital Content Management, Information Retrieval, Human Computer Interaction, Natural Language Processing, Machine Translation and Speech Technology).A minimum of 3 years relevant project management experience, with a demonstrated track record in successful project delivery from inception to completion.Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Proficiency in supporting distributed multi-disciplinary teams (ideally research teams).Ability to strongly focus on delivering results but at the same time sensitive to academic objectives.Strong interest in basic & applied research and in the application of research outcomes to solve societal and industry problems.A pro-active self-starter with the ability to encourage and stimulate cross-group collaboration.Desirable Experience with research & project management within an academic research environment.Experience in both industry and academic environments would provide a distinct advantage.Skills & CompetenciesExceptional communication skills, both written and oral.Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build and nurture relationships.Strategic thinker that doesn't lose sight of overall research goals and priorities.Ability to make insightful and timely decisions in challenging and complex situations.Ability to work effectively cross-organisationally and cross culturally.Strong problem solving and analytical skills and an ability to learn quickly.Proven ability to prioritise workload and work to tight and exacting deadlines.Good written and oral proficiency in English (essential).High level of proficiency in IT packages (e.g., MS Office, MS Project etc).Specific requirements:Fixed Term Contract to 31st December 2020
