Senior Gardener

Details of the offer

Senior Gardener

Excellent Opportunity in Cork

Our Client is seeking to recruit a senior gardener for a historic property in West Cork, Ireland. The property is situated in a secluded location benefiting from the gulf stream and is located close to award winning Clonakilty town. A wide range of plants, including some uncommon and rare specimens, are grown because of the very mild coastal climate. Its most important feature is a recently restored 2 acre walled garden, dry stone terracing, glasshouses, cold frames, potting sheds and ponds. The layout of the walled garden includes a flower/vegetable/fruit production garden, Italian garden, rose garden, exotic borders and an informal wildlife pond. Other features of the property include lawns, mixed borders, several ponds, a saltwater lagoon/marsh, woodlands, courtyard garden and wild flower meadows.

Our clients team culture places a high value on commitment to tasks, collaboration with fellow team members and owners, and professional development. Testimonials available from former employees can be reviewed. After a reasonable period of time and mentorship to develop the necessary skills, the chosen applicant would be expected to progress to the position of Head Gardener at the property. Therefore, applicants will ideally have already gained a good track record and want to progress their career.

Reporting directly to the Head Gardener, you will assist in all the duties required for the care, maintenance and development of the gardens. This includes:

propagation, vegetable and flower production, greenhouse management, woodland and grounds maintenance. General gardening duties You should have at least 5 years gardening experience, a college qualification; level 5 or above, with good gardening and horticulture knowledge. A commitment to wildlife-friendly and sustainable garden practices is essential. You must possess good interpersonal and communication skills, show attention to detail, manage your time efficiently and have a working knowledge of health and safety standards.

This is a full-time position with attractive remuneration based on experience (in the region of €35-45,000)
