Service Overview The Department aims to follow a policy of early assessment in the community within a period of 24 to 48 hours of referral by the G.P.
Patients are then seen at the next Outpatients Clinic.
Admission to the acute assessment ward is from Casualty, the Day Hospital, OPD or direct from the community.
Another major role of the Directorate is the rehabilitation of patients within the Hospital.
Assessment of patients for extended care and the organisation of this service both within the Hospital.
MedEL also has a very close working relationship with the Department of Psychiatry of Old Age.
The aim and objective of the Directorate is to provide a comprehensive service for all the elderly population that it serves with the objective that no one who requires its facilities are denied access to Acute assessment, rehabilitation or extended care Grade Senior House Officer Salary Scale Basic salary will be applied in line with approved HSE salary scales.
