Our client the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) is seeking a Senior Legal Advisor (AP) Division Overview The CCPC has two in-house legal divisions: (i) the Competition Legal Services Division, led by the Director of Legal (Competition); and (ii) the Consumer/Product Safety Legal Services Division, led by the Director of Legal (Consumer/Product Safety) and General Counsel.
The Competition Legal Services Division is a specialised legal team with responsibility for advising the CCPC on all matters relating to mergers and competition, including administrative and criminal enforcement. In addition to the Head of Legal, it consists of a Deputy Head, Senior Legal Advisors and Legal Advisors. The Competition team is continuing to expand so further opportunities for promotion are likely to become available in the short to medium term.
The Role: This is an exciting opportunity for a competition/regulatory lawyer to be at the forefront of the competition regulatory landscape in Ireland and to make a significant contribution to the delivery of legal services in a dynamic organisation with a wide range of enforcement and regulatory powers.
The Senior Legal Advisor for this role will be primarily focused on competition enforcement and providing high-quality, solution-focused legal advice and support on all aspects of the CCPC's competition law enforcement function.
As a Senior Legal Advisor in the Competition Legal Services Division, you will provide direct support to case teams and have direct engagement with decision makers to ensure that CCPC decisions are legally robust, and that legal risk is managed effectively. You will take a lead role in managing external litigation the CCPC is involved in.
You will be required to demonstrate strong leadership, analytical, interpersonal and organisational awareness skills. You will be expected to contribute to and engage with the overall management of the Division, share knowledge, manage more junior lawyers and have opportunities to lead or be involved in divisional or cross-divisional projects.

The Successful Candidate: The successful candidate will be self-driven and results-oriented with experience of providing strategic advice on complex legal matters. You will have excellent analytical, technical and drafting skills and an ability to provide practical and solutions-focused advice. A key requirement of the role is the ability to take the initiative and run matters independently while also working as part of a team with a strong growth mind-set that is open to feedback. Given the dynamic nature of enforcement, a proven ability to adapt and work within strict deadlines.
As this is a management role, you will also have a proven track record in managing people.
Key Responsibilities: Provide high quality, clear and timely legal advice on all aspects of the CCPC's competition law functions.Lead and/or manage legal proceedings concerning the CCPC's competition law enforcement functions.Provide proactive legal advice and support to the CCPC's enforcement case teams including advising on the use of information-gathering powers and legal professional privilege.Lead and manage the performance and development of junior lawyers within the Competition team including setting goals and empowering career progression.Manage external service providers (e.g. external solicitors and barristers).Liaise and maintain effective and professional working relationships with external parties, including external legal counsel, government officials, other enforcement agencies and the European Commission.Represent the CCPC at both national and international level at meetings and conferences e.g. European Competition Network (ECN).Lead in making proposals or recommendations to Government Ministers regarding legislative changes which will promote competition and/or consumer welfare.Essential: Candidates must have been called to the Bar in the State and entered on the Roll of Practising Barristers maintained by the LSRA; orHave been admitted and are currently enrolled as a solicitor in the State; orHold a professional qualification in law which may be an accepted equivalent.Candidates must have at least three years' relevant post-qualification work experience either in a law firm, as a practising barrister, as in-house counsel, as a legal advisor in the civil/public service or within a regulator with a similar remit to the CCPC.
Knowledge and experience of Irish/EU competition law.
Experience of litigation and/or regulatory investigations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to provide clear, focused and practical legal advice.
Highly developed organisational and administrative skills.
Oral and written fluency in the English language.
