Role Overview As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will take responsibility for the mechanical aspects of major construction projects. You'll be coordinating technical designs with on-site installations, right through to the successful commissioning of systems. Your focus will be to ensure all project goals align with the company's mission and values. The scope of your work will be determined in collaboration with the Project Manager and will evolve as the project progresses.

Key Responsibilities: Gather all relevant design documents and drawings for project execution. Participate in project handover meetings and identify opportunities for cost savings or value engineering. Prepare detailed coordinated drawings that include mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, structural, and architectural elements. Review project designs to ensure compliance with specifications, and contribute to weekly progress reports. Assist in preparing technical submittals, requisitions, and purchase orders, and verify equipment/materials received on site. Resolve design queries through the Request for Information (RFI) process and ensure all technical documentation is up to date. Have a strong understanding of the project's commercial aspects, including profit margins, potential variations, and project take-offs. Coordinate with design consultants, contractors, and internal teams on technical and commercial issues. Attend technical meetings and oversee quality control activities, including P&ID walk-downs and snagging. Supervise subcontractors, prepare risk assessments and method statements, and ensure the project is delivered safely and to a high standard. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure information is shared via systems like File Key. Qualifications and Experience Required: A degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, or a Senior Trades qualification. A minimum of 5 years of project engineering experience with a mechanical contractor. Demonstrated ability to manage small to medium mechanical projects in sectors such as commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, or data centres. Strong commercial understanding and ability to review mechanical systems for compliance with specifications. Experience preparing technical submittals and overseeing health, safety, and environmental systems. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and manage teams. Organized with strong administration skills, and a focus on keeping accurate project records. A strong problem solver who can make decisions under pressure and drive project success. Committed to maintaining a high standard of safety and quality in line with EHS guidelines and quality management processes. Experience mentoring and coaching junior engineers and graduates.
