Job Description Job Title: Senior Occupational Therapist (12-month FTC) Department: Allied Therapy Department Reports to: Allied Therapy Manager Date: 2024 Overall Purpose of Job We will provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are at the centre of all we do.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables 1. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.1. Deliver an effective and efficient Inpatient Occupational Therapy Service based on assessment of needs.
1.2. To represent and promote Occupational Therapy within the hospital and provide educational sessions for both nursing and medical staff as to the role of Occupational Therapy in the hospital 1.3. Work with Allied Therapy manger to scope and develop out patient Occupational Therapy services.
1.4. Administer the highest quality of service by identifying and implementing operational procedures in line with best practice standards.
1.5. Keep abreast with new developments, skills and technology in Beacon Hospital, to ensure continuing competence in the job.
2. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 2.1. To create and promote good working relationships through open communication with all other medical and Allied Therapy Professionals.
2.2. To supervise, mentor and support Staff grade Occupational Therapists.
2.3. To facilitate Occupational Therapy Student placements. 2.4. To maintain appropriate records and statistics sufficient for organisational and legal purposes.
2.5. To regularly review and update the OT policy, guidelines and protocol documents.
2.6. To participate in relevant hospital committees 3. STAFF MANAGEMENT 3.1. To be professional, dedicated and punctual at all times.
3.2. To encourage professional development of all team members through promotion of self-learning, formal courses and in-service training.
NOTE 1.
The hours of work are at the discretion of the Allied Therapy Manager and in line with service needs based on a 35-hour week.
Person Specification Qualifications Candidates must hold a degree in Occupational Therapy, and be CORU registered.
AOTI membership is desirable, not essential.
Experience Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience working as an Occupational Therapist in an acute adult hospital setting.
Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge Candidates must demonstrate the following clinical competencies and demonstrate the following knowledge base: Competent to carry out Cognitive Assessments.
Competent to carry out Functional Assessments.
Competent to complete Home Assessments.
Demonstrate strong experience in discharge planning in the acute sector.
Demonstrate knowledge in older person community services.
Competent with ADL equipment assessment and prescription.
Competent in the area of Pressure Care.
Competent in the area of seating prescription and wheelchair assessments.
Have basic upper and lower limb static splinting.
Demonstrate knowledge on the referral process for community occupational therapy.
Experience in Falls Risks Assessments and Intervention Experience in Paediatrics desirable Experience with acute Neurological Patients is desirable Personal Competencies All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.
Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager of hospital management.
