BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND WEST REGION POST: PERMANENT PART-TIME SENIOR PHYSIOTHERAPIST CHILDRENS DISABILITY NETWORK 6 TEAM REF: 121/2024MD The Role: The Permanent Part-Time (49 hours per week) Senior Physiotherapist will be responsible for the delivery of Physiotherapy support to Children accessing Childrens Disability Network Team 6 (CDNT6). CDNT6 provide services to children from 0-18 with complex development needs which include physical, sensory, intellectual disabilities and autism. The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland (BOCSI) are the lead agency for this team. CDNTs are interdisciplinary teams who work within a Family Centred Practice model and work collaboratively with children, families and other stakeholders to meet goals identified by the family. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and delivering intervention to children and young persons in clinic, school, home and community settings depending on their presentation. CDNT6 covers a geographical area of: Galway City East, Claregalway, Gort, Headford and Oranmore. Reporting/Responsible to: CDNT- 6 Team Manager. Qualifications: The successful candidate must be registered with CORU. They must be eligible for membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists or hold an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health & Children. Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant post qualification experience which includes supporting children with complex disabilities. Skills: Candidates must demonstrate competency in applying theory, knowledge and skills in physiotherapy within the service area of children and intellectual disability. Candidates must also demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. It is critical that the selected candidate work effectively within a dynamic team environment using a person centered philosophy. Candidates are expected to work within their professional code of ethics at all times. The Brothers of Charity Services have a strong commitment to on-going professional development. Specific training and continuous professional development relevant to our service provision are encouraged and supported. The Health Service is undergoing ongoing transformation and therefore it is critical that a flexible attitude to changing environments and work requirements is held by the successful candidate. A full clean driving licence and use of a car is an essential requirement of the post. Working Hours: 63 hours a fortnight. Hours will be within the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Contracted hours are liable to change between the hours of 8am 8pm as future service needs require. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. Annual Leave: 29 days per annum. Remuneration: Department of Health Physiotherapist, Senior salary scale 01st January 2024 - € 60,816 x 8 increments - € 71,609 pro-rata per annum. Tenure: This position is permanent part-time and pensionable. Probation: A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employers discretion. Travel: The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty. There will be a dual office base for this post due to the geographical spread of the CDNT. The locations will be Woodlands Campus and Newcastle Rd (Galway). This may be subject to change with service developments and needs. The Health Services are undergoing ongoing changes and due to re-alignment of services, a change in base could occur in the future. JOB DESCRIPTION The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible both in their approach and their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual. Specific Conditions: The Senior Physiotherapist forms an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Practice in CDNT6. The model of service is an interdisciplinary one as outlined in the Progressing Disabilities Services (PDS) Framework The postholder must have a positive attitude towards working with children with complex needs and help to ensure that they lead as normal and enjoyable a life as possible. Staff must promote dignity at work and show respect to people supported, colleagues and stakeholders in the course of duty. Main duties and responsibilities: Be responsible for managing own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for children according to service standards. Participate in teams and foster and maintain professional working relationships with other team members. Participate and lead Individual Family Support Plans To organise, plan, co-ordinate and develop services in order to meet the physiotherapy needs of people supported as assigned by the Physiotherapy Manager. Ensure that all referrals and requests for physiotherapy services are dealt with in a co-ordinated and prioritised manner and in co-operation with other team members. To provide assessment, consultation, treatment and recommendations for children. To develop individual and group programmes for children and their families to help achieve optimum independence, enhance quality of life and maximise integration into the community. This will include development of individual programme plans, involvement in family meetings, and attendance at relevant clinics as appropriate. To ensure effective communication with all team members and families using our services. To record caseload activity in a timely manner and maintain statistics as required. Demonstration of efficient and organised record keeping and report writing will be required as part of service provision. To ensure confidentiality in all matters including the safe storage of reports and records. To assess and apply for mobility and postural aids, orthoses and other equipment to maximise potential and assist with functional goals. To provide support, supervision and mentoring to staff grade physiotherapists within the department. To assist and co-ordinate undergraduate student placements, physiotherapy assistants and physiotherapy volunteers as deemed necessary. To monitor and to keep up to date with developments in the field of physiotherapy and other areas relevant to the caseload and to attend, subject to approval, relevant post-graduate courses and lectures. To provide services which are professional, accountable and consistent with physiotherapy codes of professional conduct and of the physiotherapy profession in all aspects of your work. This includes the code of conduct of the ISCP, European core standards of Physiotherapy and WCPT standards. Operate within the Policies and Procedures of the Brothers of Charity Services. Senior Physiotherapists may be requested to sit on planning and working groups and play an active part in service developments relevant to their skill set. To provide relevant teaching and training for families, staff and students of own and other disciplines as required. To review equipment in designated areas and to ensure maintenance defects are reported as soon as possible. To ensure staff are instructed in manual handling procedures as required. The post holder may be expected to undergo specific training in this area. In conjunction with the Childrens Disability Network Manager, lead service planning by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users. To be aware of and become familiar with Fire Drill procedures i.e. fire detection, evacuation and fire fighting. To be conscious of health and safety matters in the workplace and, in particular, to comply with employees obligations as set out under the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act, 2005. All Physiotherapists must ensure, as far as possible, the environment in which they are working is safe for people supported by the services and staff and to report any potential hazards. To ensure that all accidents/incidents to people supported by the services, staff and visitors are reported promptly to the person in charge/deputy. To perform such other duties assigned from time to time by the Childrens Disability Manager and deputise when/if required. All duties must be carried out in person at all times. As the duties and responsibilities of any post in the Service are likely to change with the ongoing needs of the cohort we support, staff are expected to have a high level of flexibility, a willingness and an ability to develop new approaches to their work as the needs demand.
