Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Microwave Sensing (Chipless RFID Sensing)Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork is an internationally recognised European research centre in integrated ICT (Information and Communications Technology) encompassing materials, devices, circuits and systems. As Ireland's largest Research and Technology Organisation (RTO), specialising in both electronics and photonics, Tyndall works with global industry and academia to transform research into products in its core market areas of electronics, communications, energy, health, agri-tech and the environment.
Current radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology employs integrated circuits (ICs). The production of these ICs poses formidable environmental challenges for the future. Tyndall has recently received funding from the SFI Research Centre CONNECT for the CARAMELs project to develop wireless sensors using a chipless and battery-less approach using sustainable cardboard materials.
Tyndall National Institute is therefore seeking a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our team with the following Responsibilities:
Deliver antenna and microwave solutions to enable chipless RFID solutions on cardboard substratesWork with our research colleagues to develop new types of LIG sensing elements that can be interfaced with the above antennas and incorporate Machine Learning techniques to improve sensor readabilityDevelop working demonstrators to showcase the developed sensor technologyLiaise with research partners and relevant stakeholders at a technical levelManage communication with relevant partiesCarry out administrative work to assist the program of research and ensure all project deliverables and milestones are achieved in a timely mannerParticipate in Education and Public Engagement activities, as requiredEnhance Tyndall's position internationally as a world expert in wireless sensing systemsContribute to the engagement on IP activities in partnership with the Office of Technology TransferEnsure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management systemEnsure all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standardsCarry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.Essential Criteria The candidate should have:
